Please watch my short noir film 'Causality' I made.

Brilliant

Seriously, top 5 narratives I've seen on this site.

Great cinematography.

Good Job

cool man, i was sooo excited by the route you took with giving our stalker the chance to do something about the gun. totally great and well thought out. i wish that there was a bit more atmosphere that could parrallel the music more. maybe some more cc on some of those scenes in the kitchen when the girlfriend is beating on the guy? decent sound work also, you did a great job!

wow, thanks alot guys, i didn't expect many compliments. as for settings i used pretty much all default only with cinema-D. I really feel i could of done better if i had more time to work on the script but it was pressured so i had to get it done fast. Most of the work went into sound recording and CC - I had MAJOR issues with monitor problems. Maybe I'll touch-up those kitchen scenes more with cc before i send it to festivals. Thanks again!

Hey, it was pretty good. My only crit might be that the setup is a little long. without credits, your piece is about 11 mins...and it takes nearly nearly 7 to get past the exposition. You might be able to cut back a little on those earlier scenes, like the dude swearing at his cat. He certainly used the "F" word a lot.

Another thing you might want to think about is shortening up the credits. 3 minutes of credits is a lot in proportion to the film. Might be something to think about.

nice job well done story.. kept me interested the whole time... keep em coming? What were the camera settings for this one? And what did you edit this on?

thanks blind -- i'll change that before sending into a festival!

all settings were F5 with cinema-D instead of V

It's not the most professional looking piece I've seen here, but it's definitely one of the only pieces that kept my attention. Good job. My only major critique would be to do some more sound work. It's obvious that the gun is light weight and plastic. Some sound effects might go a long way to sell the illusion.

Also I didn't think the cat that played skittles was selling the performance very well IMHO. :)

Looks amazing man - great work! Of the screens the second and the last one are my favourites.. Good luck when you send it on the festival run! :D

noir doesn't have to be B&W. Although it typically is b&w, noir is more about the story/characters and the way the story's told. The imagery is important...concealing information through the use of light (or lack there of). Many (color) films today can be - and are - considered noir. See "Brick" and "Minority Report" for example.

Quoting directly from the linked document:
"even modern detective noir--"L.A. Confidential" and "Chinatown"." both of which are in color, not mention Body Heat.

Oh, that's funny because the screenshots of L.A. Confidential on IMDB look like B/W to me. Maybe I'm colorblind.

Regardless of that, the term noir means black...so whatever.
And it wasn't referring to the color of the picture, it was referring to the subject matter.

"Film Noir (literally 'black film or cinema') was coined by French film critics (first by Frank Nino in 1946) who noticed the trend of how 'dark', downbeat and black the looks and themes were of many American crime and detective films released in France following the war, such as The Maltese Falcon (1941), Murder, My Sweet (1944), Double Indemnity (1944), and Laura (1944)."
