Ever since I got this camera, HPX300 I have been back and forth about problems. So I had a client come in the other day and comment about how blurry my video looked. I was so upset. So back to my testing I went.

Please click the following links to two JPG images I uploaded. They are two screen shots, one from the HPX300 and one from an EX1. Take a look at the logo on the shirt. Make sure to view at 100%.

I am packing it up to send to Panasonic tomorrow because for the life of me I cannot figure out why it looks so bad compared to the EX1.

Do you see the difference below?

I'll agree that looks awful, and it looks nothing like the 300 should. You should be able to easily match the EX1 for sharpness. I don't know why you're not getting the right results, unless you're shooting in standard-def or that was 720p AVC-I50 vs. 1080p on the EX1 or your backfocus is way out or your lens is just junk. But yes, you should be able to at least match the EX1 with a properly-set-up HPX300.

The HPX is 1080i 60 and the EX1 is 1080p 30 . I set the backfocus properly using the chart. I take the lense on and off. I reset the camera. I updated firmware. Im at a loss. As long as you see it too I am not crazy. Time to send it back.

What was your Iris set on the 300? Its a problem with the 300 that pictures getting soft if the Iris is set higher than 4.0, maybe 5.6. Use ND-Filter (Gain should be -3 at all) to keep Iris open. Should be between open and 4.0. Maybe that was the "failure".

The iris is less than 4 at all times and gain at -3. No need for the ND filter in my lighting conditions. All flourescent studio lights which I move around to keep the iris open.

Is it possible you could format your card, shoot a small test sequence, and then upload the image of the P2 card as a .ZIP file?
I think we need to see the raw images of what you're shooting and factor out your Premiere workflow.

IMHO, you should be getting as good or better (usually better) than the EX1. You've had this camera since November,
so I suspect it's either a defective unit or some workflow issue.

There is a 1080 and a 720 clip in that zip file. The EX1 included is 1080p. Why? I am desperate and will even pay to have someone come here and set it up for me or send it back.
