Hello everyone,

First off great forum, I have gotten a lot of my ?'s answered here. I just want to get some recommendations on working with this camera and Sony Vegas.

I use Sony Vegas Pro 8.0c (Build 260)
I shot my footage in 720 24p
I have a Duel Core 3.60 GHz with 4GB of Ram

When I am editing my footage in Vegas the preview comes out choppy and unmanageable. Once I apply filters, layers, sounds etc it comes to a screeching halt.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need a better computer, a codec I have missed perhaps, or should I convert the MTS files?

If I should convert the MTS footage, what software is the easiest and best to use if I have a ton of MTS files?

Thank you so much in advance!

With your processor you shouldn't have any problem. I have a 2.1 dual core. What kind of graphics card do you have? That could be it. I set my display on good and get nice playback (without filters). 24p is a bit tough for Vegas, but it works. Also, do you have your projects settings correct for 24p?

Personally, I would look at transcoding using neo scene or dvcprohd converter and raylight, especially for heavy edits.

That sounds about right with the native .mts files. My Quad Core with 4g RAM handles it natively just fine until you add effects, then it starts to slow. My dual core laptop lags badly with the .mts files, so I transcode with Neo Scene when I work with it. With Vegas, Neo Scene is your best bet, as the Cineform files it transcodes to will run in real time even on slower systems, like my laptop.
