I shot a feature in April and now I am trying to finish it so that can submit it to the Sundance.

I shot it on HVX200, 1080 24pA and now my editor is trying to export it to DVD so that I can send it in.(Deadline is this Monday)

Since I have no money this friend of mine who is an editor did the editing but she does not know how to put it on DVD without any resolution loss.
She did put it on DVD but it looks like it was shot on a regular camcorder.

Can anybody tell me what to do?

Just like I said I have no money left ,that's why I have to go with my editor.
Please help me

Thanks a million.

I'm no expert but I don't think you can put HD information on a DVD. I would think it is being down rezzed. You need Bluray. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

export via compressor, use the fastest encode (normally not the best option, but since it must be out today, thats probably your best bet. If you have more time do a high quality encode that does a 2 pass render. Use DVDSP to author and you should be ok. Remember that you are still converting it to SD, so you will lose a lot of the quality. Best of luck!

Sorry I gave the wrong info. The deadline is next Monday September 22. I have about 4 days to work.
Thanks again

Well, there will be resolution loss...absolutely. You are taking a 1080i HD image and compressing it to 720x480 SD DVD...with MPEG compression. The only way to get an HD DVD out of this is to author a BLUE RAY DVD, but that is expensive and takes a lot of effort.

Export a reference quicktime movie, take that into compressor. Use the BEST SETTING for DVD that matches your timing. Then take into DVD SP and author. That is the best you can do.

When you reference "putting it on a DVD" are you saying authoring a Standard Definition video DVD or copying a movie file onto the DVD as a data DVD?

I am not good with the terminology but all I want is a DVD copy of my film which is on FCP so that I can send it to the festival.I don't know what that is called.Sorry

"DVD Best Quality" is a two pass, what would you do differently than what Best Quality does in Compressor if you had more time?

EDIT, I see you said fastest not best

I think that is what he is saying, but it's a good question. Will the Fest accept a file that they can view in 1080? Because if it's short enough you can put a 1080i file onto a DVD as a FILE, like .mov If it's a playable DVD, you can burn an HD DVD on DVD SP4 on an SD disc, but it will only play on an HD-DVD, not an SD player or Blu-Ray.

Otherwise you can do as has been suggested above. But remember, lots of big Hollywood movies are burned on to SD and look great. If it looks bad on SD and great in HD, it may be that it being authored/encoded/compressed in a less than effective way.

David , yes it is intended to play on a DVD player for them to watch and decide if it is worthy to be in the festival.

Sorry I am trying to put the last touches that's why I respond late.
Thanks
