Hi all, Im trying desperately to install the hack. Ive got the latest ptools and cant find the firmware image to load??? Im running mac and somehow landed up using wine bottler app maker??? isnt there like a basic step by step installation method for mac people???

I swear ive spent weeks reading and tryna understand this stuff but the "ptools for begginners FAQ" is for PC and I dunno what to do. :(

All the files you need are here:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...ers-required&p=1958384&viewfull=1#post1958384

On an intel-based Mac, install Wine. Create a wine "bottle" (container) with Wine Bottler. Name it anything you want (does not have to be only for GH1/Ptool).

Next just double click the Ptool.exe file, downloadable from the link above or here:
http://www.gh1-hack.info/ptool3d.zip

Once Wine has loaded Ptool.exe (within the "bottle" you made), then your next step is to load the original firmware.

The original firmware is here:
https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/support/en/dsc/fts/mac/GH1__V13.zip

For the new firmware settings, always make sure to have the first 2 boxes checked (e.g. version increment).

Next you'll custom input new settings detailed in the following thread link:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?215511-PTool-settings-sharing-thread

Last step in Ptool is to save new firmware. Give it a different name then the original firmware file.

Now get your camera and sd card (class 6 or higher, like class 10). Format it in camera.

Remove SD card, put it in a SD-USB adapter and into your mac USB port.

Copy the new firmware file to your SD card, not in any folders, just at the root level.

Eject SD card safely, put it in your GH1, turn camera on, and press green button to preview pics/videos (play mode). Screen will ask if you want to upgrade firmware (autmotically seen on SD card). Select yes, and wait until 2-3 mins (don't interrupt, so make sure battery is near full).

WHEN its complete, format card again to clear away the firmware file on SD card (its already in the camera).

Enjoy shooting higher quality footage. If "write to card" failures happen, try a faster SD card (Class 10). Or try different firmware settings in Ptool (always selecting the first 2 boxes).

Have fun. (sorry if any typos, my 3.5 yr old was climbing me while i wrote the last half).

Yeah, wow indeed, thanks DanDOF. Taking the time to help a couple of strangers (especially while wrangling a 3 year old) is mighty big of you. And Nicky, thanks to you for starting the thread.

I just got a GH1 today used and the guy that had it before me said he already hacked the camera but did not hack it to the max bitrate. i run MAC OSX and have done all the steps and the only one thats not working for me is getting the firmware menu to pop up once the SD card with the new firmware is in the camera. i tried renaming the firmware to "GH1__134 and 135, etc" as i read that you change the number everytime to rehack it.

how do i know if the camera has been hacked, and better yet, how do i get the normal firmware back on the camera and start from the beginning????
