Please help! Mov wont play image only audio

Please help! I digitized some footage into final cut. I gave my friend the MOV's and he has problems viewing them on his iMAC. Any idea why that is?

The problem is:

The Audio plays but there is no video. The screen is black.

His specs are:

iMAC 2.4ghz Intel
4GB Ram

Please someone help!

Probably digitized as ProRes which your friend doesn't have. If true, tell your friend to install the latest version of quicktime. That should sort out the problem.
 
He says he has the latest version of quicktime installed.

What is the latest version of Quicktime anyways?

It's not the latest version of QT that is important; it's whether your friend has the same codec you used for the footage

For example, DVCProHD footage requires that codec on the viewer's Mac; it is only installed by FCP.

Let us know what codec you used. That will tell the story.
 
David, I suggested that because if it was ProRes that was stopping the show (as it often does with FCP handoffs), installing a new quicktime version is an easy fix.

Of course you are right, the codec is the real issue here.
