Hi,

I basically need a camera like yesterday to finish a project.

I have A BMC on order { Will arrive like what century? }. So I pulled the trigger on a GH2.
Cam arrived defective. UGGGGG. I need to shoot!

Should I recorder a GH2, or wait for GH3 and get something to shoot with until then?
{ I want high bit rates, but I dont want to hassle}

thanks

Well, the GH3 won't be out for a month or two I believe. And we still don't know how great or not great it will be. Sucks that you got burned on a defective GH2, but I'd still go with a GH2. You said you needed a camera right away, and the GH2 is available now. Install a decent hack on it and go shoot.

Thanks man,
yeah Im thinking the same - reorder the GH2 and start fresh. I guess I should get it with the cheap kit lens + add a 20 mm 1.7
to the order.

What if I order body only and save 100 bucks? Plus only get the 20mm 1.7. Is it worth it to dump the kit lens
to save 100 bucks? Anything low cost better than the kit for those lengths? thanks.

The stabilization in the kit lens is useful for handheld shots when your light is good. You can always sell it down the road and get most of your $100 back.

Mate, just rent if you've got a BMCC on order.
If it's only one job, you'll be throwing money away.

thanks man. Honestly my credit is kind of iffy, so I dont know how that would fly? Also I might be getting greedy and starting to think I need both cameras. Or I might cancel the BMC if I get more fed up with it. or I might resell one if my tastes change. ?????

I'm a loyal GH2 user, but from what I have seen of the BMC, it blows the GH2 out of the water.
Head over to the BMC specific forums and check the footage out. It's amazing.

yeah, Ive been impressed by the footage. I'm not impressed by the Company. Also, I really loved the form factor of the GH2 - the tiny amount of time it was in my hands. Im guessing the BMC is kind of a brute next to it. Which would you have with you when that perfect shot happens?

I just ordered a GH2 with 14-42 lens from Samy's for $649 which includes shipping. I also took advantage of instant rebates Panasonic is offering and ordered the 20mm with a $75 instant rebate. They even threw in a camera bag and 16GB SD card (which is part of the package listed online for $779). Total price was $933. If you look at the ad you'll see the 20mm listed at $399 but online the price is $359. The $75 discount I got was off the $359 price making the lens $284.

I called B&H before I ordered as that is where I buy most of my gear to see if they would do a price match and they wouldn't. They said they are a big Panasonic dealer and that the price was suspiciously low and they said there was no mention on Samy's website about a warranty. I forgot to ask about the warranty when I ordered yesterday, but the woman said that Panasonic gave them a special deal.

My order shipped and I should have it on Nov 1.

You can't order online. You have to call to get the discounted price: 800-321-4726

No. That 14-42mm "kit" lens is actually better than most give it credit for. Yes, it's inexpensively built with plastic and there are better lenses. But for the mere $100 added to the body only cost, you get a lens that goes from a very useful "workhorse" wide angle (28mm equivalent) to a nice portrait tele perspective at the 42mm end. And everything inbetween.

In decent light it's a decently sharp performer.

And that 20mm f1.7 is a great "inconspicuous" walkaround lens as well as being extremely useful in low light.

In your position, I'd jump on Bill's advice above.

Nice deal Bill. Yeah even Amazon on line is giving the 75 bucks off. Although there price with lens
is 130 more. I bought from Samys once in the LA store. They're a top pro dealer. What card are they givin ya?. My reading says its real important for what hack you want to run. { if you plan to run one }
I guess well be new owners together friend!

thanks. If you've seen my lens post, Im trying to figure out the best, economical assortment to shoot indoor narrative. I suppose the kit will work indoors with additional light. Yeah. I'm tempted to get the 20mm, unless somebody's got more targeted suggestions in my " WHICH LENS for each shot post." I'm still trying to wrap my head around what micro millimeter looks what.
thanks

I think it might be a patriot branded card. My order lists it as "

16GB LX Class 10 SDHC Memory Card".

16GB LX Class 10 SDHC Memory Card

It's a Patriot SDHC card that's not bad. With the LX cards I've tested their write speed is in the 15 - 18MB/sec range, which might work OK with LPowell's FlowMotion ver 2.02 on the 24L setting. ( you need a much faster card to use the 24H setting, and a 64GB SDXC UHS-I card to span at the 24H setting )

Ok, that sounds like a good general use. Are you running hacks? I think the 10 will run some.

I haven't gotten the camera yet. It's supposed to arrive this week but could be delayed due to the storm.

I have a GH1 and have hacked it. I have a variety of SD cards (but not the 95MB/sec one) and they all seem to choke occasionally depending on the shooting situation. I plan to hack the GH2 shortly after it arrives but want to see if any of the cards have write problems before I install the hack.
