Please help I got a headache!

I'm recording at
-24p w/DVX100B
-capturing in fCP as a NTSC DV 48kHz
-deinterlacing using upper fields with interpolation method
-outputting to DVD using Animation codec

but I'm still getting jagged horizontal and vertical edges with moving images. on DVD and my computer screen. I've tried deinterlacing with lower fields too but I'm getting the same thing. Does my project have to NTSC 23.98? My understanding is that the DVX does all the nessaccary work for you when it records in camera so then when I capture I can edit in regular NTSC DV and not NTSC 23.98 or 24. What am i doing wrong? if someone could help me out that'd be great.

i don't know FCP but I don't think you should be deinterlacing. If you have a NTSC 23.98 timeline the interlaced frames should be dropped automatically and then you render out a NTSC 23.98 qt and you should have zero "combing"

If you recorded in 24p (not 24pA), then the interlaced lines are supposed to be there. This is because 24 fps needs to be arranged at 29.97 fps for TV viewing. Keep it in a 29.97 fps timeline, and try burning a sample DVD of just raw footage. Check it on your TV – it should appear normal, with 24p motion.

Still no change

Still no change

Thats what I've done but there still is no change. Do you think that it has something to do with the codec I'm using? I'm using the 'Animation' codec.

Do NOT deinterlace 24p footage. You'll most often end up with an unholy mess (like you've seen). And you'll through away half your resolution to boot. One of the points of shooting progressive in the first place is that it's already progressive and you don't have to deinterlace.

Go to the sticky in the FCP section which explains how to capture 24pA footage and remove pulldown as you do. Pulldown removal is what you want, not deinterlacing.
