Hey all,

I shot some footage on an HVX200 at 720 30p.
On import to FCP, it went in at 59.94.

I edited it 59.94, then after dropped it into a 29.97 timeline,
and they both look awesome when exported to QT, full res, or to H264, or to Flash, orMP4, played back from my mac on my HD monitor. But when ALL tried as tests on the web, they ALL dont look very good. There are jumps - even did a bunch of tests at a slew of different data rates, from 500k to 5000k. Both downconverted, and HD.

I have exported at 29.97f, and at 30f.

I export right out of FCP, and, to Compressor. I have compressed 40 videos 40 different times in every way, and they all look Shi**y on the net.

What other info can I give you - I have tried all different sizes too.

Why am I having such a hard time? My internet connection is screamingly fast. I have all of the current plug ins and drivers.

I can get SD footage on the net looking killer - it is just my HD footage I am having issues with.

Am I missing something?

Please say yes.
oh yeah
I had ALL these tests up on Vimeo, but they have a 500g a week limit so I took a few down but you can see the HD one and a few others here:

also an H264 version on youtube.

There is some quick camera moves, which could explain the jumps but I didnt shoot at 24p, I shot at 30p

But did I miss something on import? or...

Your help would be so greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Go take a look at the video on the Iditarod.com site. it is under the Insider section. These are made from making an alias from the time line and then droping in into On2 for a Flash. What do you think of this quality?

So the footage was shot in 720P/24PN. An Alias was made of the time line, takes about 10 seconds. That alias is put on the desktop. Take the alias, and put into a droplet, a front end active receiving site, for On2. On2 was set up for that size and right now I am unsure of the exact mesurments as I was definitely not the one that set it up. But On2 will deal with the size that you preset. A 90 second clip will take about 3 minutes to turn into a 5.8MB Flash. One of our consultants Art Aldrich helped them set up the look, and let me say that I think Art is to the Mac what Barry Green is to the HVX200. ;-) They are both rocket scientists!

Google On2, they have it for both Mac and Windows, but the windows version doesn't help us much as it doesn't take a wmv or an avi. Still trying to find the killer app for the windows side and by NAB I will know what it is as I sort of have to.

You should hear the story on how the Iditarod crew is using Raylight for the metadata sorting and archive. Art helped them set that up as well! It isn't as pretty to look at it but it is definitely Rock and Roll. ;-)

Best,

Jan

Jan, you may want to talk to the Canopus / Thomson / Grass Valley folks. You can use Procoder as a frontend to encode to Flash, and if you install On2's Flash codec, it's accessible.

With Procoder you can create droplets, set up watch folders, use a wizard, or set up ad hoc batch encoding. You can use AVIs, MPGs, WMVs, and a number of other formats as sources. Alas, MXFs aren't supported without Edius.
