Hi Peers,
I am not familiar with requirements for good enough editing capacities needed from a Notebook and so I ask for your advice.
I don't consider myself an editor and I plan to do just some basic editing, probably using Edius os SpeedEdit, for the MXF files shot 720/25PN on the HVX200E P2.
I found the following machines with the stated confirgurations and wonder which one would you recomend.
1) Fujitsu Siemens
Intel Centrino Duo/Intel Core 2 Duo T5600: 1,83GHz
Hard Disk: 120Gb
Ram memory: 1024Mb
Grafic Card: ATI Radeon x1400, up to 512Mb
Double layer recording
with PCMcia connector

2) Samsung
Intel Dual Core T2130 1,86GHz
Hard Disk: 120Gb
Ram memory : 2048Mb
Grafic Card: ATI Mobility Radeon x1250M, up to 256Mb
Double layer recording
with PCMcia connector

3) Packard Bell
Intel Centrino Duo/Intel Core Duo T2350 1,86GHz
Hard Disk: 80Gb
Ram memory : 1024Mb
Grafic Card: ATI Radeon Express 200M, 320Mb Hyper memory
Double layer recording

4) Fujitsu Siemens
AMD Turion 64x2 TL56 1,80GHz
Hard Disk: 160Gb
Ram memory : 2048Mb
Grafic Card: ATI Radeon x1200, up to 256Mb shared
Double layer recording
with PCMcia connector

5) Toshiba Satellite A100-803
Intel Centrino Duo/ Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 (2Mb cache L2, 1.66GHz, 533MHz FSB)
Hard Disk: 120Gb
Ram memory : 1024Mb DDR2
Grafic Card: Intel 945GM Express
Screen TFT 15,4 Truebrite WXGA
Double layer recording
with PCMcia connector

Thanks in advance for your wise recomendations and sugestions.

I think there might be better choices than the ones you're presenting here, however I would prefer the Siemens, because of the VGA card and the hard disk size. but you'll definitely need to take it with 2048 of memory...The good thing is that you will be able to use the P2 card directly to the notebook. Do check if the notebook has a FW400/IEEE1394 port, if not do not take it.

You will ABSOLUTELY need an external storage disk you as you are not going to use the internal disk for editing, take a look at the offerings from WD, Lacie, G-Tech etc...

Personally and for some on-the field work I use an Acer laptop with a slower Core 2 processor, however it's a breeze working with it... I love P2

I hope this helps.

Many thanks jazzx for your valuable advice. I am aware now that more than 2Gb of ram memory will be necessary.
I haven't heard much about the AMD Turion 64x2 TL56 1,80GHz but I guess it will perform well for the cash I have. +

I also considered moving to Mac but It looks difficult to get a machine with PCMCia and they certainly will be more expensive.+

Thanks again and all the best.
Other inputs are still welcomed.
