Please help - error message says: "please turn camera off and then on again"

Any ideas? I can't seem to stop this from happening.
Thanks

The first thing to do if you have such a question, is use the search engine to find if it has been asked and possible been answered before.

Here's one, dealing with the (possible) consequences of sending a camera with this problem in for repair:

"Sent My Camera in For Repair...Can't Hack it Now"
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread...-t-Hack-it-Now

There's another one, you may find it yourself. (I lost it not having a clipboard utility running currently.)

The bottom line is: there may be no other solution than send in your camera for repair.
The common cause is likely parts of bolts, that got loose, inside the camere short-cutting the electronic circuitry.

You might be lucky when shaking the camera and getting the parts out of the way but the damage may already have been done.

Did you suffer this cause or probably had the camera fall or is there anything else uncommon that happened to the camera prior to the message being shown?

That happened to me once. It happened because a SDHC card broke and I had a few plastic slivers behind the connectors in the cam blocking new cards from making a proper connection. I was about to try and disassemble my cam to try and fix it, but I was able to take a twist tie, strip off the plastic and use the thin metal wire to scrape the slivers out of the card slot.

Check all your cards for damage like the first post here:

Aside from that I don't know what else could cause that error, that's easy to get to.

EDIT: That post of "sent in for repair, now can't hack", was from when they switched to unhackable models, if you had a early hackable and sent it in, they flashed or sent you a refurbished model with the AT THE TIME unhackable firmware. All GH1s are now hackable so you don't need to worry about sending it in, aside from the cost.
