PLEASE HELP! DVX100B's viewfinder and LCD in VCR mode

Hi, I sold my DVX100B on Ebay and the buyer is claiming that the viewfinder doesn't come on while the LCD is open in VCR mode, it's just black or blank.

I checked everything and it works fine before I ship everything. I have a copy of the manual and it doesn't say anything if both are supposed to come on while the LCD is open in VCR mode. I only checked both in camera mode and both worked perfectly. I just want a 2nd opinion from you guys and want to make sure that the buyer is not scamming me. It works fine in camera mode when I tried recording something with it before shipping the camcorder.

Here's the photo that he sent me:

Also, I'm wondering if it's supposed to turn on even if there's no DV tape inserted.

Thanks for your help guys.

The photo that he sent you is from camera mode and it doesnt look right...
Even if he dialed EVF MODE: AUTO and not ON the VF should have been black while the LCD is open and not that bluish strange color that I see on the photo...
Note that it is working the same way no matter if you are on camera or vcr mode...and even without a tape...

Thanks for the reply guys, appreciate it. That's what I thought too. I told him that everything's working fine before I shipped it. I dunno what else to tell the buyer. Do I have to tell him to just ship it back and get a refund? Thanks again.

Wait -- someone with easy access to a DVX100B help Bernie out. It's probably a case of that the EVF and LCD just don't work simultaneously in playback mode. Do they work simultaneously in camera mode, if he sets EVF MODE to ON? If so, there isn't anything wrong with it, so no, don't send any money back or have him ship it back.

But if someone here with a 100B in easy reach can set EVF MODE to ON, then go to playback mode... just let us know. Does the EVF come on when the LCD is open? If so, you have an issue here, Bernie. If not (and I strongly suspect that it won't) then don't worry about it, tell the buyer it's working fine.

Don't know about the 100 or 100a but the 100b does allow viewing of view finder and Lcd screen when screen is open in both record and playback. Like Barry said, you do have to set it to do this in the menu. You can also set the view finder to be black and white while the LCD stays in color.

Thanks so much Barry for the heads up and to Tmuss for your reply. I'm really confident that it works fine. I'll tell the buyer to switch it on first in the menu and find out. It's just that it's so frustrating that you can't do anything about it. Again, I appreciate all your help guys! Thanks!

The DVC30 and DVC60 both have this feature also. Very useful for tripod work outdoors.

Yes, if you turn the features on in the menu.

In camera mode:

6. Display Setup>EVF Mode>ON

In VCR mode:

4. Display Setup>EVF Mode>ON

Hi guys,

Just to give you an update regarding my situation. I have been sending him (buyer) emails regarding the DVX100B that he has to turn it on on the menu for the LCD and viewfinder and he didn't actually reply for 3 days not until I told him that since his silence, I assume that the sale was final and I told him that everything was shipped in excellent condition except of course for the DVC30 which has a broken LCD (was mentioned in the ebay description and was a freebie), then I opened my email and this is what he wrote me:

"Hi,

Sorry for the late response. I sent the dvc30 to a repair shop for a repair last week. I called them to postpone the repair. I owned DVX100 before. I am aware that both don't work simultaneously. Currently, I am trying to video of it in operation and maybe you could give a partial refund because I want to keep it."

So, do I have to give him a partial refund or not? What do you think of this buyer? Is he scamming me? I sold him everything for $1,100.00 minus the paypal fee of $33.00

I told him that I can't partial refund the money because he already got a good deal here and since he sent the DVC30 for repair, how would I know if it has been altered or not.

Again guys, thanks for all your help.

Okay, I'm confused....

Your original post says the buyer thinks something is wrong because the viewfinder doesn't show an image when the LCD is open. But now he says he KNOWS it's not supposed to show an image with the LCD open, but he still wants a partial refund??? WHY???

I think he realized that it was his fault and just found out that it can be turned on on the menu and he just doesn't want to accept that he made a mistake claiming that the DVX100b that I sold him was faulty. That's why he also kept quiet for 3 days and can't think of anything to say.

And now his turning the blame to the DVC30 which has a broken LCD, besides it's not the main item that was being sold, it's just one of the extras.

What do you think is the best thing to tell this guy? Thanks for your reply.

it is clearly listed that the 30 has a broken lcd. the 100 works fine, he just is to stupid to know how to use it correctly. he is now trying to get a refund because he didn't know it worked that way. The buyer should know how the equipment works before buying. His fault. I would give NO refund and if he tries to leave bad feedback get the bad feedback removed by ebay. The listing was clear. The 100's lcd isn't broken. He is figuring u'll be nice and give him 100 bucks. You are in no way obligated to refund anything.

Hi, yep I didn't give him any refund and the thing is, he didn't give me any feedback at all, positive or negative. I think it's better that way than giving me a negative one. I also informed Ebay regarding my situation that my buyer was trying to rip me off and also abusing the ebay protection program. They said that if the buyer gives me a negative feedback, I will have to call and inform them right away.

Anyway, so far so good. I got my money from paypal.

Thanks all for your reply.:)
