Please give me your thoughts.

I am. Did you hear the sample. The guy is great. It sounded a bit to "trailer" for me, so I talked to him about it and what I want.

Thanks Jeff.

PS- no client. It's a contest, and we have our own things to work with. IE, make a health and safety video that demonstrates a well brought up point, in under 5 minutes.

My video will be voice over, under a minute. A quicky!

Well I definitely agree with the under a minute! When I say client I mean the judges/contest holders. Look at them as your client. Your making it for them right? Think about what they want. Even though it is a contest I think the subject is too broad. But thats just me. Something like timefest is nice and broad because its not a company looking for a time machine that is sponsoring the contest. These people are looking for something they can use in their promotional work. So if their promoting covering your mouth when you sneeze and you submit something about stress or safety your screwed. So you're left guessing as to what the individual judges want. I dont see alot different from a large oil company I work with calling up and saying hey make a safety and health video. My next question would be - about what? I could be way wrong but I just get nailed with broad requests all the time and am left guessing to either be doing what they wanted or something they werent looking for.

Anyways now that you've locked down what you are doing I'd just focus on good production values and making it visually interesting and not have any technical errors. Looks like they've got a decent list of judging criteria looking at sound quality etc. Still not sure how last years entry couldve possibly won though...

I think I'm shooting 29.97 :(

I'm sticking with 16:9 though.

I'm trying to secure an office, and a doctors office for some of the scenes.

I'll be gaining a lot of experience through this project (locations, and such) so it will be fun to do.

Whats sad about 29.97? Its still progressive at least. But why not shoot 24P if thats what you want to do?

THat doctors office from your 24hr fest was good. I bet finding an office shouldnt be too hard. Just dont blow any breakers :) Are you going to hold auditions or you have somone in mind already for the parts?

Start a thread up and give us some production diaries!

I'm just using my sister.

One reason, I can practice my directing.

Another, is that I think she would look good, and there isn't any dialog so she shouldn't have troubles.

I AM going to try and get that office, btw :)

Breakers? Lol.

I just don't know if they'll like the whole 24p thing. I don't know. I might call.

Doubt they will ever even know they are watching 24 vs 30 except for the look. And they might not even notice that. But I suppose 30 would be on the safe side.

Interesting thought on using your sister. At first I thought eh why use family, but it seems like a good point on practicing your directing and without dialogue she should be fine. I might be tempted to have her do some lines just for the sheer fact that could practice directing some dialogue.

Yeah you just wait to you blow the breakers in an office on the weekend and the breaker box is locked up in a closet and maintenance is the only ones with keys. Not that its ever happened to me :)

Robbie,

A couple random ideas:

You could always give the VO a little twist to make it different from the standard type of VO. For example, have an onscreen narrator doing a Rod Serling Twilight Zone thing. You obviously wouldn't do a carbon copy of the way Rod Serling delivers the VO, but something with a similar vibe. Sort of an homage I guess.

Also, you could use symbolism for the stress. I'm thinking of an object, a clock or an alarm clock. Tick....Tick....Tick, the STRESS levels build and build until the woman can't take it anymore. Or a tea kettle, the steam whistles at the end. I don't know, just some possibilities for some visual motifs. Maybe a laser printer goes crazy, spitting out paper all over the floor. You could take it pretty far and make a surreal little commercial.

Have you ever seen the Comcast commercial "How's it going Frank?" It has a stress-in-the-workplace theme. I guess I'm thinking along the lines of something like that.

Just some ideas for you.
