Please explain HD MPEG2TS data to me

I was told by someone, in reference to a question I asked about there being a way to do HD out to a Firestore type device, that there will soon be a firestore product which will optionally record the HD MPEG2TS data. Now what exactly does this mean in regards to the HDV cameras versus the HVX? I mean what does this HD MPEG2TS data do for the shooter/editor. I want to know all there is.

It only means that it will record the HDV stream in a ready to edit, just as if it were a digitized file. Compression is the same as HDV.

The Firestore for the HVX will be a MXF file as that is what the systems that are compatible with the P2 cards will be looking for, and these are at the native compression for DVCPRO as well. The Firestore options only compliment what is there.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Right. In simple terms, it means that a FireStore on an HDV camera can record the HDV data direct to disk. A FireStore on the HVX can record the DVCPRO-HD data direct to disk.
