Look, I know this question has been asked.. But I never read an answer that seemed to have a definitive "yes" or "no".. SO here goes!

While TILTING the HVX-200 while it's off there is a noise..
Now I read all of the stuff about the focus rods and all that.. whatever?! and I also read in the HVX Manual that there is a noise while the camera is off, and that it is natural.. IS IT? Kinda hokey no?
So, anyone willing to say YES its ok, or NO, its a PANNYMISTAKE??

Also, does anyone know where to get the 8Gig P2 cars? No one seems to have them in stock? I ordered one from broadway photo, and they decided to charge me, but not ship it.. even though they said they had it in stock.. I'm kinda bummed.. I WANNA SEE HD!!! Hooking it to your TV and watching your living room is only good for so long.. ;-)

Thank Boy's and Girls..

Happy Shooting...

If it's in the manual then more than likely it's true. Why would you not believe the manufactuer but believe a bunch of people online that you've never met? but if you search for clunk you will good humor and the truth

Hi Justin,

Don't worry all is fine.

Its a big "in joke" to everyone here as its this is the most frequently asked question.

The DVX does the same thing.

You can even get Tee-shirts printed with "whats that clunk noise?" on them.

If you lived life by the manual, you'd be a fool.. Remember FIRESTONE TIRES? They reported a problem with their tires, but the left out the fact that 1000's of people died when they explode..

If you bought a 60,000$ boat that had a hole in it, would you keep it because it says it has a hole in it in the manual?

Your told whatever's good financially for the "big company".

I trust people that have experience with a product.. Isn't that what this group is about?

Thank you to the people that actually answered my simple question.. :-)

Maybe since this is the most common question in this forum, their should be a dedicated topic called "What's the clunk?" or everyone will just have to keep answering it.. Just a thought...

Justin, you have a camera that (I assume) functions perfectly as designed/manufactured. Who cares if it makes a clunking sound. I highly doubt your camera will explode or otherwise cause you any harm, at least when you properly follow the directions for usage in the manual. The clunking sound is a complete non-issue. Relax and have fun with your new camera!

There is.

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=48809

What's that clunk noise in the HVX/DVX? It's a DVXuser rite of passage for new camera owners to pull out their brand new factory smelling DVX/HVX, clutch it in their trembling hands, and then to have their hearts drop as a rattling sound emanates from their new camera’s bowels. Everyone experiences this moment. You think something’s wrong, that you got a lemon, and you start to think about the 6,000 dollar investment you made and whether you’re certifiable.

You do a google search, and you stumble through the DVXuser saloon doors, nervous and looking for affirmation to send back this faulty beast. You post a question, “what’s that clunk noise?” and for the next six hours you experience a roller coaster ride of emotions. Is it the gyro stabilizer, a good luck penny, or damage from transit?

It’s a fun initiation, has been taken too far at times, but its time is coming to an end. Unfortunately people are taking the joke seriously, and they're actually calling Panasonic and asking about the flux capacitor and the gyrotonic stabilizing rods. :)

For those of you who witnessed the fun, and were on the receiving end of it, it was a good ride. For the new owners, welcome, there’s nothing wrong with your camera. Here's page 122 from the HVX manual:

hvxclunk9me.png

DVX100/A/B users will experience the exact same rattle present in the HVX200.

Consult page 63, Q4 of the DVX100 manual, or page 67, Q4 of the DVX100A manual for a similar explanation of the rattle.

BOOYA !!

I will take my apology now.

I understand your frustration but before you start ranting about how you asked a very COMMON question and nobody answered, you should search around a little bit first. I can see since you just joined that you didn't have the luxury of enjoying our clunk post but the clunk "issue" is a pretty big thing that people tend to notice and ask about in the forum. As a matter of fact it's so big that we were asked by a Panasonic Rep to stop playing jokes on people because just that many people were calling into panasonic thinking that something was seriously wrong. So as much and you would like to think that you are unique in the world with this problem the sad truth is you aren't and maybe searching for the issue prior to getting all hyped up because I didn't answer your question for free in the exact way or style you wanted would probably be a better way to go.

Sorry guys... I was edgy.. I was all dolled up with the camera, but no where to go without the P2 CARD... YES you are right, I should have searched around a bit more.. But with so many posts to clunks and clanks, and so many people talking about it as being a BIG PROBLEM, "DONT TURN IT ON!!!" I just wanted a straight answer.. I guess I got one ;-) just not the way I would have liked..

I did go to my local camera house to show them my new toy.. Turns out they are shooting a test short on the Canon XL H1, with the PS-Tecknik/mini 35.. Along with the Arri 535/Arricam LT.. They like the idea of shooting at some different speeds with HD, so they got me 2 8g P2 cards and the PCS-060G HD unit.. Should be fun... I'll take some stills and try and get some footage to post.. (gotta give them the footage at the end of the day)

Thanks again guys..
