Pleasant People - Official Slamdance Selection

This looks great. Gives me a sort of Andrew Bujalski/Aaron Katz type feel; I mean that in a complimentary way! Look forward to seeing it...

Pleasant People, a feature film shot primarily on the HMC150 is playing at Slamdance this year. This message board has been like a bedside companion the past couple years, and it totally sold the camera for me. Check out the official Slamdance page if you have a moment:

David,

Didn't know you were a member here too.

Can't wait to hear about the Slamdance experience...save the juiciest bits for the article for CinemATL :)

Congrats again on the selection.

Hi,

How was the experience of watching the film with an audience?

Nice to finally see "film" footage made with the HMC150, there's too many snow/skating videos out there; but not enough "films" shot with this amazing camera.

Oh it was great! It was the first time screening it to a group of strangers and we got a good response. The film is a comedy, so it was nice to hear laughs where laughs were intended.

The screens at Slamdance aren't that big. We screened from HDCAM and it looked really good, but I didn't get to tell how the image would hold up on a truly 'big screen'. A surprising number of people told me it looked great. I acted as director and DP so I wasn't always as focused on perfect images as I probably should've been. Also a bunch of people were asking what camera we shot on. It seems people in general are familiar with the HVX200 but not as much with the HMC150.

The film that won the grand jury prize, Stranger Things, was shot on a DVX! And honestly, I was thinking they shot on 16mm. I'm still surprised by that camera.

Great fest though. Definitely submit to Slamdance. I hear people saying you gotta know someone to get into Slamdance and that's just wrong. I submitted blind and got in, no connections or anything. It was a wonderful experience.
