Playstation 3 - 2006

Apparently the tech demos had horrible aliasing. If they were pre-rendered, they wouldn't, so at least most of them were real.

I would think so, especially as they were manipulating some of them (at least the duck one) in realtime.

I can't wait for it to come out. If all that stuff is ingame, I no longer want the XBOX 360 (except for NFSU: Most Wanted, which is coming out for PS3 anyway).

The one thing that I really don't like is the new controller.

has anyone seen any images or clips from the xbox 360? id imagine they are pretty comparable in terms of the images they can produce.

man, if I ever got one of these things ...it would be bad. they are just so cool. Madden Football Rules, and I'll just have to continue to settle for playing it on friends' systems. I remember playing a friend in Goldeneye (a James Bond 2 player shooting game) and it turning into like a week long thing.

Iamloser, look up Gears of War for the X360. it looks incredible. here's a link to some shots.

See, this i can believe is in game due to the fact that some screens show hard edges on the models. This shows that the model is actually low res and using normal maps to get the high res look ala DoomIII. The KZ2 stuff shows now hard edges, just nice rounded geometry. I know the PS3 may be able to crunch more polys than the x360, but when looking at the detail of this screen

I don' t think it could push that many in real time. look at the tire on the vehicle. I know that is not all polygons. to have 4 of those thing on one vehicle plus the detail elsewhere? I suppose they could be using normal maps with higher res models underneath we'll just have to wait and see. oh, don't get me wrong. I'd kill to play games that look like that. Well, as long as they play good.

I think it's getting to the point where graphics and specs don't matter. I mean each of the three machines are going to look amazing. Heck, even the three machines that we have now look amazing. It always comes down to titles and game play. And for my money, Halo 3 isn't going to be on Playstation. :)

But, as an avid gamer I'll probably be in the same camp as Res. and buy all three.

A lot of the image quality also comes from the actual game creators - their models, lighting, mapping etc. It's really hard to judge a console based on games as the games vary so much in quality (though perhaps if each console had the same game developed by the same company?)

I'll have to agree: "Circle Gets the Square"

In 2005....specs no longer matter. You can argue that they do....but they don't!!

It doesn't matter if *X* machine boasts: 323.5324 pixels shader calculations per nanosecond.......48594Gbps via 128 pipes, 16 cores on 3 serial linked chips.....blah, blah, blah!!

Are the games good? No....then who cares how much horsepower it has!! Need an example? How about some NES classics like *Super Mario Brothers* or *The Legend of Zelda*!! WOW....what MINDBLOWING graphics those were back then!!

In my cynical Salingeresque opinion.....specs died a long time ago. All 3 consoles are going to be freakin' FAN-TAB-U-LOUS!! They will all have their fair share of great games. You'll have your usual crop of Zelda's, Mario's, Halo's, Gran Turismo's, Final Fantasy's, etc. If you can only get ONE system......I'd personally recommend the Xbox OR PS3. The Nintendo will have some "Nintendo-only" games....but for the most part it looks to remain a kiddie toy....Unless they really change their games and marketing strategy.....but it's not likely.

However, Xbox and PS2 have virtually every game that comes out on cross-platform....except for the few titles like Halo, GTA, GT, etc. which are XBOX or SONY specific.

Get what console you think will fit you best. All 3 will eventually get hacked / modded.....which is why I always get them all when they come out. I think its RAD to be able to play your old NES, SNES, {insert any old system here}, games on your current state of the art console. :)

PS - Wanna hear something really funny and ironic? Did anyone else know that M$'s Xbox 360 games were being demo'd on PowerMac G5's @ e3!! MMMWWWAAAAAHHHH!!!

man, i rember when a game of "pong" was Mind Blowing. 2 paddles and 1 ball that you are not supposed to let get past you.

I think were at the level where graphics wont matter anymore and it all comes down to gameplay, which is really good imo.
If any of you guys played fightnight on Ps2 check out round 3 on ps3

And the guy say's he's playing it in real time.
and to whoever said dreamcast failed, Dreamcast was waaaaaaaay ahead of its time. and i still play mine.

I love my dreamcast. It was truly revolutionary. Too bad it was killed off by PS2. I have almost every game for it!!

Hard to beat that!

Anyone remember that little robot guy that you could plug into the NES and he'd "play" the games with you?

Chris

That was ROB, but he didn't do much and half the time he wouldn't even work! And don't forget the Zapper Gun, Power Pad, and Power Glove. Ah yes, those were the good 'ol days...

Amen to that, brotha! But yeah, I'll probably get both. I'll avoid the Nintendo, all the Nintendo I ever needed is on my SNES.

Seems that most of the guys at IGN are calling that supposed in-game footage of Killzone 2 fake. It was definitely pre-rendered and made to look like FPS view. However, Fight Night footage looks great.

Oh, and the PS3 is rumored to come onto the market with a street price of $465. That's pretty high....

DAMN....465!! That's a bad price. I would say 399 would be pushing it. The typical price for the last decade has always been 299. Inflation is a ***** I guess!! Too much powerful / expensive hardware inside those darn things!!

lol what did that ROB thing do exactly. I think I might get one off ebay.

You put a controller in its lap and it would spin those top-looking things in its "hands" then it would place the spinning top on one of the buttons of the controller to press it.

There were 4 or 5 ROB compatible games released. The only one I remember was Gyromite where the buttons on controller 2 would open doors on the levels, so when you got to the door ROB would kick into action, "press" the button and the door would open allowing you to continue with the game. Complete drivel, but man, the idea of having your very own robot was too cool for the mid 80's!
