Hey'
I just joined this amazing online community which opened my eyes for online sharing of my work.
So, I made this short film as a schoolproject and hope that you will give me some contructive feedback. It is in danish but I added english subtitles so everybody would understand.

Story line:
Earth has been taken over by aliens and the only ones who stand a chance against them are three boys. They have a plan which involves courage, intelligens and magic, but time is running out and the aliens are just around the corner.
Do the boys have what it takes to save the world and kill the terrifying enemies?
and is everything what it seems to be?

thanks in advance
Jonathan David Damborg

Hello Jonathan.

I enjoed your film, I'm not sure what it was about, as I don't speak Danish, although I think I understood the twist at the end.
I enjoyed the lighting and the effects were very good, did you create the orb based of the video copilot tutorial :) I also enjoed the SFX, very similar to Lost in certain places.

I think you've got a bright future and look forward to your next film.

thank you for the comments :)

Pre Production:
As for the work process, it was very hard work making the short film. About 1 week of sparetime was spend figuring out the idea, finishing the script and drawing the storyboard.
Next, We went out locationscouting where I checked the ligting and sound conditions.
Our actors were already cast(we had to use our classmates) except the kids ind the end, so the rest of preproduction was used on building props and getting the costumes ready.

Production:
Equipment used:
- canon 550D
- rode videomic with boompole
- readhead spotlight
- canon 50mm 1.8
- the 18-55mm kit lens
- light reflectors

On the first day of shooting we did the cave scenes.
Our crew consisted of me as a director, DOP, sounddirector and my friend as a producer and boom-guy :) The rest of the team served as the three actors.
When we first got underground we saw 5 bats flying around in the cave, so the first hour was spend removing them. The rest of the day went smoothly and we wrapped it for the day at 8.00 pm. (we started at 6.00 am)

The week after we shot the flashbacks where lots of technical problems occured.
A special look was needed so we had to drive to a place in the middle of nothing without electricity. Only two batteries were brought so we knew that we didn't have time for failing. But Something happened with the SD card, so in the middle of the day the card was full even though only half of the memory was used.
That poo pooed our plan up, and we ended up shooting, watching the footage on the 550D and then deleting it if it wasn't perfect. That also ment that we couldn't shoot everything from more than 2 angles. But somehow we made it, and only the ending was missing now.

We had planned with the local elemantary school weeks before the shoot, which kids to use and how long the shoot was going to take.
"looking good" we thought, but once again our luck failed.
We were just in the middle of it when the parents turned up wanting to take their sons home. But we begged them, and after some arguing they let us finnish.
working with the kids was very easy, and they behaved like pros ;)

Post production:
I used sony vegas pro for the editing and after effects for the VFX.
ask if you want to know anything specific? :)

I really appreciate it Pete:)

thank you for watching it all the way through even though you don't understand danish.
I just can't notice why you didn't put english subtitles on?
Yes, the lightball was based on the orb from videocopilot, and so was the intro. :D
I tried to get some of the alien noises to math the smokemonster from lost a little bit, so im glad you noticed!!
