Playing with D90 - a quick video, mostly shallow DOF outdoors

John, you come to the D90 community area to disparage the D90 and tell people who are using it in various forms, some serious...some just enthusiastic and having fun, that nobody will use the camera they own in any serious way?

You should go elsewhere to another community area where you can contribute something helpful or at least thoughtful. You made your point a million times, the camera is not for you. Guess what? For people here, it is for them and they totally dig it despite it not living up to your standards for what is proper or "serious".

Get a clue.

I'm wondering if having a "cleaner" codec on the D90 might remove the film look. Could it be the actual compression and all its shortcomings that give such a nice film look? I'm talking about the times when the composition of the image is favorable to the compression's algorithm, creating less artifacts.
I've been thinking the same thing. Somebody posted a still vs a video image from the D90 of a an urban scene of a wall covered in graffiti. I liked the gritty D90 video look better than the sharp still. So there is a chance I may be shooting my not serious feature about teenage drug abuse on a D90 even if a D??? comes out.

Thanks Squig for the naturfotograf.com website reviewing Nikon primes. It's a great site, I have been there before. Unfortunately, the reviews apply to mostly older camera models.

One thing that I have learned from buying glass over the years is that you have to find out exactly how the glass fits your model, otherwise the reviews don't translate. I have made the mistake of buying a lense that has a great review, but it HAS to apply to your camera, otherwise it most likely will perform much differently.
