Playing out recorded FS700 footage through SDI to SD network

Hi Guys,

Got a couple of technical questions...

Next week I am shooting some footage and today I have been informed that the footage has now been requested by the TV networks here.

I have been told the plan is to shoot the footage, then head over to the broadcast centre who will then take the feed out of the FS700 and pair it out over to all the networks through their DVN.

I have just spoke to the tech guy at the ABC (who will be taking the feed out of the camera) and he said that they need standard def out of the cameras SDI port.

My initial thought was to record in HD straight into a nanoflash (50mbps) and then playout of the nanoflash to their system...

The only trouble is I don't think the nanoflash can "playout" the HD footage in SD, Is that correct?

Now my thoughts are to just record the footage internally on SD card in HD and playout of the fs700 (in visual index) through SDI onto their systems....

Does anyone know if I can record the footage internally in HD then playout the recorded footage in SD?

Last option would be to record the footage in SD but the footage is going to go further than this coverage on TV so HD is needed.

I haven't had to worry about SD requirements for 2 years and now this is the third job this month where SD is involved!

"4K"? Ha!

Thanks in advance.

HI,
There is no problem at all shooting HD and output SD via SDI, I do it all the time with my Sony FS-100 and my Sony PMW-350.
With my fs-100 I do shoot in HD and go out in sd via component and with the PMW-350 i shoot in HD and go out in sd via sdi,it's enough to set the output sdi in the menu to output sd instead of hd and that's it and i'm sure you can do same thing with the FS-700.
The nano doesn't do downconverting so no hd to sd output/playout, but here is my advice:
Set your camera to output via sdi sd signal and record both in camera and to nano flash, HD internally and sd on nano flash and you have both versions; HD & SD :).. the nanoflash will automaticlly recognize the sd signal and record sd while your shooting hd in camera..I do that all the time with my PMW-350,Hd on SXS and SD on nanoflash via sdi. That simple
Hope that help, Good luck :)

Yes, you can. If you want to check that just record some clips in HD and set your output sdi on SD and then hit play while attaching the nano flash to sdi and you will see that the nano flash will recognize the signal as SD source.

Thanks for the advice videoshot.

I'll test a couple of things during the week before the shoot on saturday. I think I'll go the HD internal and record SD onto the Nanoflash which can then play out straight to their servers to go around the network.

Thanks, I just wasn't sure if the FS700 can down convert HD footage on the fly to SD out of the SDI port.

Cheers

Paul
