Playback Problem- Urgent

Hello all,

I recently shot footage for a documentary this past Saturday and the producer just reviewed the tape(s) on a JVC Mini-DV Camera, and said that he could not view the tapes. This is how he described the problem- "I do get the occasional still frame, so I know there are images and sound on the tape, but I can't view it." Another videographer shot on a DVX100a, same make as mine and the producer was able to view his tapes but not mine, so i am wondering what was wrong with my camera during this particular shoot (I just shot test footage and it came out fine). Does this sound like a problem with the tapes, the playhead or the camera settings? I recommended that he should try the tapes in another deck.

I shot in 24P and I think I can rule out that any camera settings caused this (or can I). My camera is only one month old and has never had this problem before. I shot a handful of tapes for the producer but he wasn't clear if all the tapes were unviewable or just one of the tapes.

Any suggestions on what may have caused this? I feel horrible about this and I referred to the troubleshooting section in the manual and could not fine such help. I also browsed the forum and I couldn't find any posts relating to this.

please help, thanks,

Have the producer look at them on another camera. Sometimes its the individual camera that the footage is being view on that can cause problems. (Dirty heads and such)

Another thing to check is if your recordings were done in LP. Most other units won't play LP recordings unless set to do so.

Salerno, when you shot your test footage, did you play it back on the DVX, or on another DV device? Try that, play on another camera.
