Playback on the 100a

This will sound as the most stupid thing to ask for, but...how in the world do you get play back from your tapes on the 100a. The manual is about useless on this matter. This is what I do...1.- Switch from camera to vcr. 2.- Rewind (Controls next to the menue button, double arrows going to the right ?) 3. Press play (Single arrow on top)....nothing happens, all I get is a blue screen with some info. Sometimes tape starts rolling then stops. I know I haven't erased anything because I took the tapes to a Pro Facility and picture and sound were there. What am I doing wrong?

I am a tech idiot (Was never able to program or record a VHS) so anyone that can give me instructions on how to do it think in terms of "100a playback for dummies".

My anticipated thanks

Perhaps you hit fast forward rather than rewind. Just give it another try. If you recorded then it must me on the tape. good luck

No. Double arrows pointing to the LEFT is rewind (think of it like reading a book). You keep fast forwarding to the end of the tape... hense the "blue screen".

This was a fun post, though:beer:

ok, I am from NY and I am stuck in Africa for the next few days. Today of all days, I can not play back on my 100a. RC Brown23 just made me feel like an a$$ with his statement.

I just took a tape that I know has 60 mins of recorded stuff, I know this because I put it in an other camera that played it, I re-winded to the middle of the tape, watch it for a few minunites than re-winded it once more to the same time line. here comes the fun part, I place this same tape in my 100a, and all I get is the blue screen. it displays the play symboled, sp, 48k, 25min, and the battery symboled. What am I doing wrong? How do I fix this? I wish I had found this forum before I took this trip. This is the first of many more to come.

Thank you for your time.

Simple answer- DONT use your 100a for play back...Why not just use it in that other camera you used joh?

For one, you mess up your time code, and two, it just wears your heads down

so clean the head.
I will follow the directions on this forum, thanks all.
my the way, I love this forum. I thing you all will see a lot of me.

What is the "other camera" you speak of that recorded the tape? If it's something like a Sony FX1/Z1U or any camera that shoots HDV, the DVX100 won't be able to play it back and will show a blue screen and no audio, just like you describe. Any other standard-def camera should also playback in the DVX100, though.

I made the tape with my 100A but to test the tape, I stuck it into my sisters panasonic gs500 just for the play back.
