Playback of Interval Recording in Camera?

I shot my first interval recording on the HMC40 (1 frame every 10 seconds). When I tried to view the footage in the PB (playback) mode in camera, a message came up saying that playback wasn't possible (I got the same message after I shot 24p footage).

Why can't the camera play back all of the modes it shoots in (software or hardware limitation)?
 
The camera must be set to record the same format you are trying to playback. Interval is recorded at 1080/24p no matter what format you set the camera, so set the camera to record 1080/24p and you're good to go for playback of your intervals.
