Playback issues in CS4

I attempted to edit some test footage from the 40 in PPro CS4, and am getting really jerky playback. My P2 1080i footage plays back fine. Anyone else have any problems like this?

Transcode to an intermediate code first. A quick google search should give you a number of options.

I had the same problem. It's uneditable in native avchd, but when I transcode to HuffYUV I get silky smooth jogging.

you use a p2 card in your hmc 40??? or do u use a sdhc card??

The HMC40 doesn't support p2 cards. The problem is that AVCHD is meant for storage, not for editing. It's nice and small for the quality, but good luck doing much else without transcoding.

While AVCHD is more difficult to edit in its raw form than HDV and other MPEG2 based formats, the NLE makes a big difference, as long as you have a quad core of more or less decent speed. I got the Edius Neo Booster that I had to bug Panasonic for (My HMC40 came with the regular Neo) and I'm still amazed at how well it handles AVCHD, far better than any other NLE like Vegas and far better than Premiere.

Premiere used to work far better with AVCHD, but I don't know what happened to it recently, maybe an update broke it, but a few days ago I tried AVCHD footage and it was pathetic. If you absolutely must use Premiere then you need an intermediate file for now.

So if it needs to be transcoded, is there a favorite out there that people are using most, and if so, what app are you using? I'm on a PC.

Thanks,
Brad

So the transcoder you can download from Panasonic page, the main concept will only
transcode if you film 1080i...
so progressive is outta the question...

Now that sucks......

Other options?
