play back settings

whenever i open "PLAYBACK SETTINS" in PROGRAM MONITOR or PROJECT SETTINGS APP2.0 crashes. Please guide what should i do?

thanks

Are you saying you can not open the Playback Settings Menu at all?

It is a known issue that using the wrong playback setting can cause a crash when using the Titler Window and in my case I run "Compatible Setting" to avoid the crash

What's your systems specs, CPU, Graphics Card, memory, etc.?

Does PPro2.0 operate normaly with the exception that you can't change your display settings?

When you say that it crashes, does it hang and not respond to any input or completely crashes out of the program back to the desktop?

vikaswalia, try this:

1. Close PPro 2.0
2. Open Explorer and go to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\2.0
3. Delete the file Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs
4. Launch PPro 2.0 and try to open the Playback Settings and Project Settings

This will create a new Preferences file and PPro will probably open up the Playback Settings and Project Settings without any problems.

Thanks for advice.

I have
AMD 3000+
250 GB SATA
1 GB RAM
ATI SAPPHIRE RADEON X300SE GRAPHICS CARD

i have tried after deleting the ADOBE PREMIERE PRO PREFERENCES file but still it does not work.

When i click the PLAYBACK SETTINGS BUTTON the PP2.0 hangs, then crashes and comes out to the desktop after about 20-30 seconds.

If i press ctrl+alt+del at this stage then also it comes out of the PP2.0 to desktop.

vikaswalia, ChuckS posted a question that is very intressant and need to be answered by you: Does PPro2.0 operate normaly with the exception that you can't change your display settings?

Regarding your processor, it is a AMD XP 3000+ or a AMD 64 3000+?

I started using PP2.0 only about 4-5 days back. It is working normaly. Till now i have found only one problem and that is about the "PLAYBACK SETTINGS" .

No worries, no one is born with this crap in their heads - we all started knowing nothing about NLE's.

Unfortunately, and despite what the developers of these applications tell you, as these applications have become more complex the users understanding of computers must increase.

Typically there are three areas that effect your NLE's performance and where most of the problems occur:

Operating system configuration
Hard drive speed/interface [firewire, SATA, SCSI etc]
Graphics [GPU]

Obviously with all of the different components and drivers the majority of errors are a result of and most often can me solved with the operating system.

My first impression from what you've told us is that you have a driver issue with your graphics card. Go to this website - http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/dvhdwrdb.html and make sure your graphics card is supported and that you have the latest drivers. If you do then probably the next step is to do a standard un-install [this will preserve your license and key setup information] and then re-install PPro2.
This sounds like a drastic step but in the world of NLE it is not that uncommon, especially if you change the configuration of your computer by adding a different device or updating a driver. Often the NLE won't recognize the change or new driver and get's confussed. Reloading PPro is not that difficult and doesn't take that long.

Let us know how it goes.

I would like to thank all of you for showing your interest in solving my problem.

In fact i have solved it. This was happening because of the beta version of "windows XP service pack 2" installed on my system.

I have installed the final version of service pack 2 and the problem is solved.

thanks a lot once again.
