With the price of Plasmas so low these days, I don't recommend patronizing any grey market "bucket shop." There are so many horror stories on the net about NY an NJ based webfronts. Go with an authorized reseller. Remember the ol' saying about something appearing to be 'to good to be true.' 8th gen Panasonic Plamsas are stunning and NEC makes some mighty fine ones as well. 50" for under $3K street these days.

I.

Thanks for the info! Just as a follow-up...where are the best places to buy plasmas? I'm thinking of getting the 42-inch Panasonic...anyone have luck getting a good price on this somewhere?

I got a decent price from Best Buy on the 42" Panasonic. After doing some talking and adding on some other stuff myself I got the television down to 2699 from 2999. You might be able to do better somewhere else but at least I know i can trust the retail name.

And by the way It's a beauty.

are you sure you want to go plasma? LCD's i feel have just as great quality with flatpanels and its life will be much longer in your production suite than a plasma would....just something to mole over

Panasonic's new generation of Plasma's claim 60,000 hours of life. Not saying I'm gonna hold it to that however I also like the stark vibrant colors and rich blacks I get with my plasma. When comparing LCDs and Plasmas in store I felt the look of the Plasma was just much richer and in the end that matters more to me when I'm plopping in Jaws for the umpteenth time. I save the LCDs for my work station which is almost on constantly.

I always check costco first, because if anything goes wrong you just take it back and they make it right. They've usually got a pretty good selection of plasmas on the floor.

Thanks for all the ideas...turns out the Plasma I wanted to buy is at B&H for cheaper than the rip-off site...I'm gonna walk up there this weekend and buy it! Psyched!

Thanks again,

B&H Photo is a great place to purchase from. You might want to also check Visual Apex. Although if you can walk into B&H Photo that's even better since Visual Apex is on the West Coast!

I picked up a 50" plasma. Here's a photo, while watching Sin City (that's a camera flash in the screen):
