FS7: PL to E adapter for FS7 MII

Any PL adapters that you've concluded are the best or the worst?

I need to mount the Fujinon 20-120 to the FS7 MII.

Thanks!

All of them will get the job done, but there are some that do it nicely.

I've used a 16x9 inc adapter before to mount PL primes, I used a rail mounted lens support.

Wooden camera's is really nice as it attaches to their top cheese plate for support from above.

I don't think you can really go wrong though as it's just a metal adapter - not passing lens info through or any optics to worry about.

That may not in fact be the case. Myself and another owner / op were unable to get the Hot Rod Camera PL to e-mount adapter to work with the Fs7M2 locking mount. It works fine on the Fs7, but we could not get it to seat properly on the Fs7M2 in order to turn the locking lens mount mechanism of the Fs7M2.

We were able to get the Metabones PL to e-mount adapter to work.

Wooden Camera's PL to e-mount adapter is in fact really nice. But that mount to the top plate can be problematic. For one, you have to be using the Wooden Camera top plate. Secondly, it is not easily removed once attached. That is fine if you are only using PL mount lenses. But if you are using a mix of mount types you won't want to be using the WC adapter which mounts to the top plate. The bracket prevents the mounting of an EF adapter. It also prevents the use of an FD adapter. It may even prevent the mounting of PL adapters other than WC's PL adapter.

At one point WC announced that they were developing a top plate connected support ring that would not only work with their PL adapter but with EF adapters as well. Such a product would allow the user to use an EF adapter without having to remove the support bracket that connects to the top plate. The one support bracket would work with both PL and EF glass. But there was never any further info from WC on the development of such a product so I can only assume that they had difficulty sorting out such a design and abandoned the attempt.

It is possible to use the Wooden Camera PL to e-mount adapter without the support bracket in place. The bracket is overkill for most people anyway. Particularly on the Fs7M2 that has a beefier from wall to the camera body and the locking e-mount.

I own FS7MK2 and Cabrio 20-120mm. I'm using it with Metabones PL mount and it works great. With that length of Camera you probably will need a baseplate. If you end up getting one of those Zacuto Universal Plate V2 or Movcam FS7 Plate, make sure to get a lightweight 15mm rod support bridge, short carbon fiber 15mm rails and secure the lens to the rods for additional support since PL mount tends to loosen up with such long lenses like Cabrios without any additional support.

Any chance you could post a picture of your rig? I was leaning toward getting 12" rods to extend out front from the Zacuto baseplate with the hope that it would be long enough to support a mattebox should I decide I want more than the Cabrio lens shade.

This is my rig with Chrosziel shoulder plate and ARRI matte box. Please ignore my wonkily positioned shotgun mic! I have since replaced a broken mount with a better one:

Maybe your subject is really tall! :D Not to be picky about pics, but I was hoping you'd post a picture of it with the Fujinon 20-120 rigged as you described. ;) Great rig, though!

Oh funny! I'm getting all confused on who's saying what. I see now that it was joshtreepark who mentioned have a Fujinon 20-120!

This is
- FS7 M1 with XDCA Extension Unit
- Wooden Camera top plate, WC PL Mount with the support bridge
- Cabrio 20-120mm with Smallrig 15mm Lightweight rod attachment.
- Zacuto Universal Plate V2.

Hope this helps with your decision.

An interesting twist on things how your rods are only long enough as is needed for the lens support. I like it, although I personally like having the longer rods so that I can hook the thumb on my focus hand around them or attach hand grips. Safe to assume that you also have longer rods if desired. Nice rig.

The Fuji 20-120mm is tempting. But with the price of used Cabrio 19-90mm zooms approaching the price of a new 20-120mm it would be a difficult choice for me. I think I'd give up some focal length for the T2.9.

I think you need to get yourself a green eyepiece chamois now!

Or change your lens to a CN7... :) and you can match the base plate

Looks great! Very helpful to see your pictures.

Yup those short rods are the ones that came with Movi Pro. Luckily that's the maximum length I am able to send the camera far back and have good balance on my shoulder so it's just a tad bit back heavy for easy operating. I'll attach longer rods if I ever need to use follow focus, but if I'm just hand held operating, I can't use other handles since my right hand is on the zoom rocker and my left hand is pulling focus.

19-90mm is definitely tempting. However I bought the 20-120mm used so the price was definitely reasonable on my end. Also Comparing 19-90mm's T2.9 to 20-120mm's T3.5 is just a half stop of light but I gain 30mm more of focal length. I'm on a show with 3 FS7's, two of the rigged with 20-120mm and 19-90mm and the stop difference is covered by the high ISO value of 2000 at Custom mode, and being able to reach far with extra 30mm is super helpful especially when I have to stay out of broadcast cameras field of view to get my shot.
It's not a perfect lens, I'm aware of. However it gets me a nice wide to telephoto shots, good bokeh, and being a reasonably respected brand certainly helps with the frequency of rental days to pay it off. Also because the lens is long and sleek looking, people tend to be more careful around the camera and give compliments, which is a nice bonus ;)

Love the looks of it! What case did you say you were using, by the way?

The nice thing about the Metabones and MTF PL adaptors is that they have 1/4 tripod mounts. I have the Title base plate set for my FS7 and the locking bolt in the baseplate for the lenses is a stroke of genius.

Metabones comes already shimmed. I think the MTF does as well but I had to Shimm a lens.

The mount on the FS7 is really weak. FS7ii was a god improvem
