PL>E-Mount Adapters: Reviews?

While researching how to use my existing lenses on my soon-to-arrive A7s, I've concluded that the NEX>EOS Metabones adapters are superior to the cheaper eBay options, whether via the Speedbooster model while in APS-C mode, or with the non-booster Mk3 or Mk4 models. I've tried out the $12 eBay EOS adapters with a GH4, and found them unusable due to both incorrect flange distance, as well as loose mounting fit and release button.

I've found few reviews for the NEX>PL options, however, and would like to use this thread as a collective repository for the various mounts, along with first-hand accounts of their build and reliability. I'm hoping any DVXusers might share their own experiences to help sort out whether how the lower-cost options stack up against the big names.

Here are the current options I'm aware of for the NEX line:

Current list of all NEX>PL mounts at BH

HotRod Camera: $799-$1148 (with support chassis)
*No doubt, Ilya knows what he's doing and offers his mount at a premium price. Offers rail-mounted support chassis.

Wooden Camera: $499
*I bought their M43>PL Pro mount and found its calibration spot-on, so I have full confidence in their builds. I also feel much better about WC's Pro line of mounts, thanks to the ability for the user to install shims. Offers support foot.

Hawk's Factory: $150 (eBay)
*A low-cost option at least from a company with an actual name, who appears to have a decent record of strong builds. No built-in support available.

Photodiox: $120
*The cheapest option at BH, so at least it's an easy return if it doesn't cut it. Offers support foot.

Generic eBay: $89
*Tried this one out since the price couldn't be beat. It's identical to the Photodiox, but is branded as BOR Adapter. No port caps included. Features a removable but sturdy support foot that does align properly.
My calibrated Cabrio focused past infinity on the BOR, and the mount does not feature an adjustable flange, nor is it internally accessible to shim. Fortunately, my Cabrio has an adjustable back focus, so I can still make use of it, but would otherwise prove to be a headache with other lens marking.

I have 16x9's and vouch for it. Never had a problem and it includes a proper support that actually works with my Metabones EF and Nikon F mounts as well, so total bonus. I've put a 24-290mm on it, no problem.

That said, I'd trust anything that Ryan at Wooden Camera builds without hesitation. You're also in LA so you can visit Illya at Hot Rod.

Just think of the glass you're gonna be putting on the camera, like that gorgeous 19-90mm of yours, and then think about what you'd trust to mount it with. You get what you pay for. :)

Solid Camera PL to E-mount. It's one of the most expensive, but Carlos makes industry standard gear- you truly get what you pay for.

Hi David,

I'd like to invite you to stop by our Hollywood location the week of September 6. We'll have something brand new for your a7s I think you'll quite like :-)

Please bring your Cabrio as well, we will have the new (partial) zoom through wide angle Cabrio adapter that will convert the 19mm to a 14.5mm and allow you to zoom to about 30mm on the barrel. You're welcome to give it a try.
