Pixels Shmixels

Hello all. I know there is an ever continuous discussion on how many pixels that camera has or this camera has. And I know that a higher pixel count does not neccesarily translate into a better image. Can someone help document what resolution the chips are, and the final pixel count per chip that are used in the listed cameras? I've filled in some blanks (per discussion and pannasonics web site) and I could be wrong on some numbers but if you can please contribute. Thanks!

HPX500 - ??? x ??? = 620,000 (same chip set as SDX900 but uses pixel shift?)
HPX2000 - ??? x ??? = 1,100,000

SDX 900 - ??? x ??? = 520,000

HVX200 - 960 x 540 = 518,000
DVX100 - ??? x ??? = ????

Hvx uses pixel shift as well, but thoes numbers are meaningless in regards to the picture. its the "technolgy" behind thoes pixels that counts.

yes a honda is 4 cylynders, but so are some race cars... and they can go 200 Mph.....

so the count isnt important , its whats around them.

Like I said - i don't think it does matter much if i were to judge image quality by just looking at these numbers. But, I would like to know how it all works, how resolution translates into pixel count, etc. Then if i'm ambitious maybe I can make some relative conclusions on my own or at the very least understand why one would give different results than the other. However, all things being equal, obviously there is a image difference between 600,000 pixels and 1.1 million. No?
