Pixels/Resolution vs Story/Script/Talent

Hey guys, seems like we've really been getting obsessed with technical minutiae of the HVX200 lately. I had to get back to the reasons I even want an HVX200. To move audiences emotionally, to make people laugh and cry, and to awe with wonder. So I spent the day working on my screenplay instead. It was a really refreshing and poignant reminder to me, that all the pixels and resolution in the world won't help tell me a story, without good writing and convincing talent.

Oh well, just a heads up, that worked for me, for everyone who's sweating the technical details of the HVX200. Just go out and use it. If your story/production is good, will it really make a difference whether it's in 720p or 1080p?

Cinealta, thanks for the reminder. This past month I've been working on a short doc and I've been agonizing over not having enough resolution or crap like that with my trusty ol' DVX instead of a HD100 or HVX. And my current gear is not even capable of editing DVCProHD and very sluggish with HDV.

After finally getting to post production today, I realized that content is king. I'm still not sure why I'm reading dvxuser.com instead of concentrating solely on editing!!!

Better equipment is more of a bonus. Nice, but not necessary.

Still, I can't wait to get the HVX.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

just like clockwork, every 2 months this topic pops up in one form or the other...

this is a technical forum - scripts/story/talent are discussed in the storytelling or scriptwriting forums.

i predict the next one will pop in April or May... "its NOT the camera - its the story" - thanks in advance!

I think the reason people discuss the technical side so much is that there are definite answers. I am currently working on a script and spend ages discussing it and improving the story and characters but it would be very hard to do that here or on any internet forum. These forums just don't really lend themselves to that kind of discussion IMO.

Hm. Yes, mmm, I think you have a point. Definitive, concrete technical answers are so reassuring. And the amorphous, intangible, elusive subject of story is so frightening. Cuz let's face it: few people can tell a good story. Get 100 people to write a short story, and you'd be lucky if even one of them were suitable for publication. But we can all learn how to adjust the settings on our cameras and computers eventually.

BULLSEYE! Enough said this is a technical forum. Here story is zero.

Over at Story and scripts forum. Story topics are all that matters and technical is zero.

Well, I think this is just one of those golden rules everybody should know if they're into filmmaking. However, we have a wide assortment of people here on this site that may be into weddings, sports, television, and other forms of visual entertainment subjects. It just happens that there are a lot of filmmakers on this site. Nobody should bash a well-intentioned thread in my opinion guys.

Thanks for the reminder, Cinealta. Keep up the good work.
