Pixellation problem

I'm was shooting with a dvx 100a and my video looked fine when playing it back in the camera. Then, 3 days later the editor calls to tell me 50 minutes on one tape is pixellated. I took the tape to a pro post house and played it with the dsr 2000. The video looked fine but the sound kept dropping out.
The tape operator there said some dirt must have gotten into the heads during recording but then dislodged itself, that's why I got good playback and all my other tapes were fine. But I never got a dirty head warning in the camera. Has anyone ever seen this problem before?

Now, the only way to salvage the tape is to try playing it back on different decks with different tape alignment paths or adjust the deck to play back this tape cleanly, which no one wants to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think the problem started because I started shooting the tape with a Sony Fx1, which kept losing power, so I switched the tape to the dvx for the rest of the shoot. Some dirt must have gotten in the heads but I should've gotten a warning.
