Pixelation HMC80 25P mode

Hi Guys

Anyone know what is causing this or is it normal???? If I shoot in PH mode 1080 25P (PAL cameras) I get pixellation in parts of the image.

Take a look especially at the tree trunk and leaves below it!! I've shot weddings all season on both cameras but in interlaced with no problems at all.

Any clues???? Still from the footage (untouched) is attached. For this very reason I have avoided shooting progressive so far but prefer the format....the 1920x1080 file rendered down to SD also shows the pixellation!!!

Thanks

Chris

Hi All

I found the issue!!! The MTS files are pristine when played in VLC media player BUT because my DuoCore 2.2GHz struggles with AVCHD I usually transcode the files to HDV using Upshift..I encoded these the same as I usually do at 50mbps and leave the interlacing setting at "Copy From Input" (since it's already progressive) and set key frames and GOP at 1 (same settings I use for interlaced transcoding) and THAT'S where the pixellation is coming from.!!!!

I wonder why Upshift doesn't appear to be too happy converting progressive footage??? When I transcode normal 1080i I use the same settings but set interlacing to "Progressive" so I have de-interlaced footage for Sony Vegas ... it only seems to create the pixellation when trying to convert progressive raw footage.

Anyone here using Upshift with progressive MTS files????

Hi VideoAtlanta

Yes I agree too!! I'm on a PC and the converter VAAST Upshift cannot handle progressive footage so I shot interlaced and had to be content with HDV as my little DuoCore struggles with AVCHD. For the new wedding season I will be shooting more than likely in 1080 25 P (we are PAL so it's not 30P) and then transcoding to Canopus HQAVI which gives a file almost as good as the MTS (plus the software Edius Neo Booster was free with the cameras) End result is great.. however I still cannot decide whether to shoot in 1080 25P or in 720 25P or 720 50P !!! I'm sure somewher i read that 720 does a better downconversion to SD than 1080??? (something to do with closer aspect matching???) All my weddings end up on SD DVD's as none of my brides seem to have (or want) DVD players!! Mac's over here are expensive compared to PC!!!
