Pixel shift and lens qualitie

The Andromeda uses the SD-lens of the DVX - with stunning results. The HVX almost does not have any lens issue at all. In both cases pixel shift provides the HD resolution. It seems to me that cameras that use pixel shift don't depend that much on HD lenses like cameras with full resolution sensors. This might be very important for the HDX 500. With its 2/3" SD sensors and pixel shift it might only need a good SD lens for sharp images. Any idea wether I'm right or not?

This makes lots of sense. A good sd lens should do the trick..

Only way to know is to try it with each lens. But "pixel shift" (aka, or in fact better known as "spatial offset") needs good glass to properly resolve the high-def image. Spatial offset doesn't "digitgally interpolate" missing data, it actually creates new sampling sites. So the lens needs to project enough information for the chips to see.

I'd say that more than likely, the DVX's Leica lens is way overkill for SD, so it's holding up to the job of delivering a decent HD image.

Looking forward to the first test shootings. 10K for a HD lens would hurt a lot. I know in part it's wishful thinking but if the HDX would work properly with a SD lens... :-Happy(DBG):
