pitchin' a new show

The show is called The Time Bandit Boyz. Actually I aint gonna be the one pitchin' it at all... the Time Bandit Boyz are gonna handle that as they have all the hookups. This show is very raw... think modern day pirates at port. The idea is to leave in all the cussing in and running it late night on Discovery, often teasing and plugging Deadliest Catch with new episodes on Tuesdays. We'll see how it works out. It'll be fun to produce it though. I'll be at Capt. Johnathan's place sometimes, ridin' dirt bikes and actin' a fool and at Capt. Andy's ranch other times, helping him break bare broncs and such. The thing is, just driving down the street with these dudes is entertaining.
Lemme know what you think:

This pilot was shot when shooting a Budweiser promotion in Florida a couple of weeks ago. It's basicly all the stuff I couldn't use in Budweiser's video.

Is it going to be possible to leave in all the swearing on Discovery?

Also, I've got a question, I think sometime last year someone on hear had made the claim that when the Time Bandit guys rescued that guy from the water that it was re-enacted.....a lot of us on here disputed that, any info on that? I know they guys had talked about it a couple of times on after the catch and it seemed pretty legitimate to me. Also, one of the more cooler moments on the show IMO.

Nothing gets reenacted. They simply don't have time for that. They don't get paid enough by Discovery as it is and they surely would never play hollywood while fishin'. It's dangerous stuff. If the crew got in the way just a hair more, they'd get the boot so work could get done. I'm not at liberty to say what they get for playing host to the crew but I can tell you crabbin' pays a helluva lot better.

It, of course, is up to Discover to make the cussin' call. Being cable, they can do whatever they like, just like HBO. There are a few limitations (insertion, money shots, ect) but certainly the f-bomb on a constant basis is fine on cable. Always has been. This would be a gutsy venture for em.
So I think they'll bite.

No way in hell Zaslav will ever allow that to happen. You could probably sell a finnished version to Original Productions to be included on the dvd's as a bonus featurette. They might bite on that if you keep the cost down.

Not trying to discourage you Grinner but I do know David Zaslav thinks his networks future will revolve around kids.

Another thing is I doubt the Time Bandit guys could ever pitch anything to Discovery regaurding Deadliest Catch because thier contract with Original Productions. It would have to go through T. Beers first and he already has 100's of hours of this type of footage and rights to Deadliest Catch, there is a reason he hasn't done it.

If you must, I'd pitch the foul mouthed show as a dvd featurette first to Beers then throw your idea in after it and do it in under 5 seconds so they don't drown someone.

I can picture in my head how G. Neighbors at Disco is going to diffuse this one when the Time Bandit guys go to him.

Do you hate me? I hope not, I'm just pointing out a few things you need to think about.

no man I don't hate ya.
The Hillstrands have no contract with Original Productions and have two show cocepts in the works. Pitchin one to Animal Planet called Hillstrand vs hillstrand. Discovery will end up bidding higher. Same with this show. They'll wanna keep em in the family so to speak.
...and will pay top dollar to do it.
Beers would sooner take the concept and run with it than pay me to produce it. We'll go around em. Time Bandit Tv and Grinner Hester LLC will merge for this project.

For some reason, I always thought Animal Planet was "in the family," as in owned by whoever owns Discovery. Mostly just because you can't watch anything on Discovery without seeing tons of ads for Animal Planet shows. :D

Anyways, looks like a fun time, good luck with it. :)

Hey all I said was that if you watch that episode... the INSTANT the guy is supposedly falling into the water the camera tilts down to show ONLY WATER (doesn't show the guy actually FALL???)... then when they pull the guy out of the ocean and over the rail... again... we see ONLY DECK until he is actually ON THE BOAT (no shot over the side... which we've seen a million times for a pot of crab, but NOT for a man overboard???) Watch that episode... you NEVER see ANYBODY in that water... ever.

If that's all legit then that's a couple of the worst cameramen EVER (which we already know isn't the case because of all the slips, falls, and accidents they DO catch.) The boats have more coverage then the Olympics... why no money shots? No money shot at EITHER end?

We had a similar debate about Bear Grylls... as the majority were arguing everything was 100% real and I said the cameraman must be twice the bad-ass Grylls is... 'cause he's doing it ALL also... AND carrying heavy gear AND getting quality footage... but nobody thought that was logical either... and I guess Kobe jumps speeding cars, etc.

Man... on a VIDEO MAKER'S forum no less.:beer:

Don't forget about TLC! Between the three I'd bet you'll have one helluva bidding war.

I have seen the episode again, I hear what your saying, but still think it wasn't staged. It's all good man.

As for Bear Grylls, yeah, it's pretty obvious he's getting lots of help, and honestly, I think the cameraman is more of a bad ass, there are times where there like jimminying their way down trees and I'm amazed they'd do that shi* not tied into something, espcially if your carrying a heavy ass camera.

I'm actually surprised Man Vs Wild gets more flak for them staging things, compared to them staging animals and then him killing them and then wasting the body. There was a recent episode where he kills a reindeer and then ends up dropping it into a river, completely wasting it.

It's one thing with a show like Survivorman, where you know he has no food with him and he has to kill an animal to eat (which rarely happens, cos it's hard as hell to just catch something) but it's another thing where it's done for the sake of the TV and you know he's got shelter and food with him when the camera is turned off. I'm surprised animal rights groups aren't all over this, Bear does this all the time.

Now, that being said, the animals they stage in the show could be lined up for slaughter anyways.

Don't forget about TLC! Between the three I'd bet you'll have one helluva bidding war.

I think Discovery owns TLC, do they not?

Discovery is a beast:

Discovery
TLC
Animal Planet
Discovery Health
Discovery Kids
Science Channel
Investigation Discovery
Military Channel
Planet Green
FitTV
Discovery en Espanol
Discovery Familia

I might be missing one or two.

As per Bear Grylls...check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UpSlpvb1is

As per the show in question. I stopped watching after about 2 minutes. I didn't understand what they were supposed to be doing. I don't see it in the discovery arena. (Personal Opinion)

Discovery Communications owns 21 media brands. Be carefull and don't shoot yourself in the foot thinking thier own cable nets will start a bidding war for it. Could be some big fallout from trying that tactic. Your dealing with some very media savvy people and execs here.

I forgot about Zaslav's deal with Oprah W. so I think it might be up to 22 brands now. If he completes his deal with S. Speilberg we might start seeing re-boots of Deadliest Catch, and Survivorman :) Dh'O! Had to say it.
