Some of the cleanest HVX footage I've ever seen

Yeah, it's 24P. :)

Minor Color Grading on the image, not a lot, mainly just upped the saturation on everything to make it more cheery and colorful.

I'll tell you, the hardest thing in lighting that first scene was that darn spacesuit, we wanted to get some nice highlights on it, without losing detail. In the end, we shot it right on the edge of overexposing it, and then in post, I brightened the highlights a bit, so it's slightly blown out, but it still looks pretty good to me.

That's one of the main things I've noticed in the difference of shooting HVX over DVX, the HVX really does make a difference in latitude, and I can definitely notice it.

Seriously, this show looks very cool.

I really hope it gets picked up.

You should talk to HDNet, which does only HD programming.
Don't know if they want a children's show, but I figure what's the harm in asking?

PM if you want a contact name.

Great job!

The title is a little arrogant for me but i agree with most of what's been said in this thread. The live action stuff far outshines the cheesy animation/effects. Looks like a good project and is the best i've seen from you brandon.

Looks great B-Man. I've been looking forward to more of this since I saw the titles before. The footage looks great too. Good job on the lighting.

hi, Brandon

did you guys use any adapter or just the stock hvx....... and how does it look when you down convert to sd

Alrighty, here are the settings :)

Shot on P2. 720P 24Pn

Scene File Settings

Detail Level: +1
V Detail Level: 0
Detail Coring: 0
Chroma Phase: 0
Color Temp: 0
Master Ped: -1
A. Iris Level: -3
Gamma: B. Press
Knee: Low
Matrix: Norm
Skin Tone DTL: On
V Detail Freq: Thick

When I tried out these settings on my cam, my V Detail Freq is locked on THIN and it's in blue which I guess means it cannot be changed. what did I forget to do?

The V-detail level is only possible to use when in 480/24p or 480/30p (or 576/50i). In any other mode (1080, 720, or 480/60i or 576/50i) it's always blue.

Very well done! Can I ask where you got the space suit from?

That I am not sure about, but I do know the spacesuit cost a lot of money, but thankfully it wasn't purchased for this particular project. It just happened to be there when we needed it :)

heh heh heh..i saw a DVX. Truthfully, i was very very skeptical when i read the thread title initially, coz it was a kid's show, and it wasn't really my cup of tea. But when i saw it i was really blown away by the professionalism of it. I really agree with alot of what has been said so far, and it truly looks like a potentially enjoyable show. However, i also agree about the animation at the start...the live action segments far surpassed it

I was equally impressed as everyone else by the lighting, acting, professionalism of the whole thing. Thanks for sharing the settings.
Now how about the sound: What boom mic was used? Distance from talent? The clarity of the audio jumped out at me first thing. Any mixer or preamp used, or straight into the camera XLR's?

Sound was all done by our awesome mixer, Eric Burge. I know he used a preamp mixer, and some very expensive and high-quality boom mics. He also had lavalier mics on the two kids. Our sound designer, Chris, also did a fantastic job of cleaning it up and sweetening it :)

Brandon,

I loved your choice of colors for the set backdrop when Mr. Joe came in to meet the two kids. People have already commented on the rest of the clip (which was great), but I thought your color choices were great there. Perfect for a kids show.

Scott
