Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

Liquid 6 has been announced. It's not clear whether 24p is supported or not but the ability to dump pretty well anything on the timeline looks cool to me. I have recently fallen in love with Liquid 5.5 and am very excited by this release - but then again I am in PAL land and probable lack of 24p support is not an issue.

See what you think - here:

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

HOT Damn! I've been impatiently waiting for them to roll this out since NAB. Gimme Gimme Gimme! I cant wait to upgrade. I'm glad to see there are other DVX-100 users editing in Liquid. Not alot of people realize how good Liquid Edition is. Most users start out on Adobe, FCP, or Vegas, and then they just can't wrap their brains around Liquid's comparitavely unusual interface, so they never really get to see what it can do for their videos, their editing, and their productivity. For me, editing in DV, Liquid is the best solution out there. I really hope that there's support for 24p advanced with this new upgrade. Viva Edition HD v6.0!

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

Collink,

I too am sweating the details of LE 6.0 supporting 24p. I read today on the COW that it looks like it will have 24p.

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

No 5.1 surround ("full surround sound"? What does that mean? Pro-Logic?).  No 24p.  This is a worse punt than the XL2 -- it doesn't even bring it up to par.

Disappointing.

And no word on upgrade price.

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

David,

LE 6 will have 5.1 surround sound, and the jury is still out on 24p. The upgrade price for 5.5 users is $199

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

Regardless, I'm eager for the upgrade. They'll get my $199, and possibly more in that I'm very interested in the "NEW" pro breakout box. I didn't go with Liquid 5.5 Pro because I really need to work in a dual monitor environment. And dual monitor options for the old pro solution were an afterthought plagued with operational issues (PCI graphics card? huh?) The new one seems to be a thicker (almost double stacked) Moviebox DV. But it has component I/O and analog (and I believe spdif audio I/O). These are all things that would help out, and definetly would be a system upgrade for me. Here's a real interesting question though. Their SmartEDIT feature shows to allow editing of several different formats on the same timeline, allowing you to mix footage say from a DVX-100 with footage from that new Sony HDV Cam, under those circumstances, what are the output options? Does it render out to the lowest common denominator? Or can the editor upconvert or transcode DV footage to other formats like HDV or even HD? This is of course pure conjecture, but I'm curious. If I was blessed with a WVHS deck could I output HD to tape?

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

Now, why on earth would the jury still be out on the 24p support?

Charlie White / DMN overview of their evaluation of the Beta Version:

http://www.digitalproducer.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=27960-0

There IS definetly 5.1 support, he has a screen grab of the audio editor (with VST plugins and all!) and in answer to my earlier question: native DV footage can be upconverted to HD for outout from the editor! That sounds, eh, fun. Ha-ha!
I suppose that if LE 6 supports 24p they're waiting till October to "spill those beans" in an attempt to create more hype and make people flock in droves to buy the software. October release date also confirmed if we didn't already know that (I didn't)

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

Great news, I just hope you can edit in a native progressive enviroment in the new version, because I really like edition.

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

Has anyone heard any news on the date of release on this software? I don't know how much longer I can wait before I burst.

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

I talked to the Lead Support Engineer at Pinnacle (in person). There is no 24p workflow. It can edit 24p HD *if* another program removes pulldown. It will not remove pulldown or edit 24p SD natively.

In other words, they screwed the pooch.

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

David, are you certain of that? I called Pinnacle this week, and they stated that it does support 24p. If it does turn out to be untrue, then I'd be pissed; as I was seriously looking into it.

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

It doesn't do it natively.  It doesn't remove pulldown.  You have to start with footage which is already pure 24p (which DV is not).  And I believe the 24p timeline option is only in HD resolutions.

I saw a live demo about two weeks ago.

And what annoys me about it more than anything is the flippant attitude they have toward 24p and the DVX. They clearly consider them passing fancies, minor curiosity at best. It's not the market they're after. They're full-bore after HD and think it will rule the future.

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

well, i will get it. but 25p = 50i in PAL.
i looked around long and almost bought the Canopus Storm2 this week. but now i checked into edition and so many told me only the best about it especially if your videos are longer than 30 seconds and have more than 50 shots.

and the box with DV, component and Composite will allow me to use my Betaequipment too on it.

i also cannot believe that 24p is not supported. i do not need it, but there is a huge market with DVX and XL2 and more to come. maybe they make a plugin later? just keep complaining at the forums....

Re: Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.0 announced

Yeah, you're in good shape, Alpi, as there's little difference in editing in 50i or 25p when you've shot in 25p. Like 60i/30p here.
