PilotFly H2 Gimbal

Putting my apprehensions aside, I kept the H2 I on back order at B&H so as not to loose my place. After the last batch went out, it seemed that the next one wouldn't be until the end of June. However, it seems they have just gotten more in, because my order says, "In stock, order sent to warehouse" a nd my card has been charged.

One thing is for sure, I'll need to test the hell out of it when it arrives, to take full advantage of the B&H 30 day return policy if needed.

Flapjack, did you ever consider that option? How quickly did Pilotfly say they would replace your unit?

Interesting that bh may have gotten more sooner, my backorder still hasn't changed status. I did notice they raised the price by $50 though so I guess I'm still glad I got my order in. It's also backordered everywhere else though so it's not like there are many other options besides placing a lot of orders and seeing which comes first...

Awesome. When did you place your order?

A couple of weeks ago, although with backorders at B&H, it's really more of a "wait list" order since they don't charge your CC until shipping. (Just got a tracking number from B&H, so it's definitely on its way.)

I'd originally ordered the Optimus from Came-TV but cancelled due to weight limits. Very disappointed to have had to cancel that one! Oh, at the time, I believe Came-TV's estimated ship date was this week.

With Flapjack's issues, it'll be interesting to see if I can get it to work with a full 4.9lb load. I'm going to try to be pretty methodical with my testing.

Cool. I ordered mine on May 20 and I got an e-mail saying my order was "Still out of stock" so hopefully it will ship soon. Let us know how your experience goes with the H2. I have been reading on numerous instagram posts about people having issues with the settings and they say it constantly freaks out, similar to what Flapjack was experiencing. Hopefully they have a firmware update to fix this issue. Hopefully it works out well for you.

Hey gimbal guys and gals,

I have a NX1 and I'm getting the 16-50S lens for it. That combo with the battery supposedly weighs 2.74 lbs. With all the talk of the H2's weight limit being grossly exaggerated, I'm worried that my combo is going to be too heavy. Thoughts?

Yes, it is below the specification, but it is being speculated that the spec is grossly exaggerated. Check post #76

That's my point. cseeman says it is an impressive load. I am countering that it is not an impressive load since it is only half of the H2 specification. I also agreed with post 76 in post 79.

Sorry Paul, I got a little confused. I see what you're saying now. I'm a little slow ;)

I'm kinda stunned the the FS5 w lens weighs around the same as the NX1 w 16-50S. Assuming I have the Samsung's weight right, since I don't currently have the lens.

I find it a bit difficult to believe myself, but that's what Sony specifies for the body and lens minus the accessories as shown in the picture.

I've always thought 1/2 have the maximum load is idea. That would make the 1/2 way point higher on the H2 than the Optimus.
We'll have to see if someone shows a Canon 5D with a significantly hefty lens on it.

I don't follow that thought. One engineering team could be conservative and the other is not. One marketing team may not care what they spec. There is no way to know what the load numbers mean until we get a few dots on the graphs that tell us what works and what does not.

Keylight, good luck with your H2. I'm returning mine to B&H and getting back in line for a working one. My plan the next time around is to get a light prime lens and keep the weight under 1k, and cross my fingers that I don't need to do much with the PID settings. In the meantime, I've still got my non-functioning one if anyone has any ideas of what to try.

If you're going to stay under 1kg, have you considered the Optimus?

A good resource for more H2 info is the Facebook group: Pilotfly H1/H1+/H2 Users

Thanks for the info about Facebook! (I don't use it so visiting their page without signing up fills half the screen with an annoying login/signup prompt!) Under the annoying prompt I saw they posted this.....

Please be informed that all Pilotfly gimbals will be shipped with the latest firmware. Visit our support site and check the latest Firmware release for your product, before you check and upgrade the new Firmware. For the firmware upgrade go to the tab “Upgrade” and check the box for “checking beta versions too”. Please make a backup of your current profiles before you change any settings or before you do a firmware upgrade. Verify FW revision number of “Latest Version” with “Current Version” and ensure revision number of latest version is higher than the current version, otherwise you do a downgrade which will cause a malfunction of the gimbal.

Sounds like they posted a warning based on what happened to you! BTW, I'll let you know what version of firmware the unit I get shipped with. Should be here by the end of the week.

Right, so his load is 1530 grams (1DXii) and 805 grams (24-70 f/2.8), and he's getting enough shake that it looks unusable at that weight. This seems about right to me, although I would love for someone to prove my weight capacity theory wrong, maybe with some magic PID settings, and post a video of it.

Note that at the end his camera swings down and the zoom lens bangs into the H2 frame. If you are playing with PID settings like me and have a long enough lens, this will happen a lot. Before experimenting with PID settings, I'd advise checking to see if your camera body and lens clear the frame rotating in all directions. Or else be prepared for your camera and/or lens to take a beating. In my PID video, you'll see the dials spin like crazy--my camera looked like a space camp gyroscope: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vshcLpXhXnI
