Picture Style Question...

Can the Canon DSLR's record video using the different picture styles...namely monochrome...or is that something that would have to be done in post? I have looked around here, and did some googling but couldn't find an exact answer. Thanks!

Yes. You can shoot video using any of the predesignated video styles (like monochrome) as well as dial in you're own styles using the custom slots.

You can certainly do this in-camera with picture styles, but a word of caution: If it's in-camera, it's final. You may be able to tweak, but if you shot with only tones of Green, then you will not be able to do much in post. If you shoot flat, still maintaining normal colors with less saturation, or neutral, you can use any professional color-correcting function in post to squash the saturation of certain colors to reach the monochrome look you want.

I have never done anything (yet) with my 7D where the intended final product is in monochrome, but here are some good links to peruse:

Thanks all. I was just curious. I get what you are saying about doing things in post. I want to shoot some monochrome video when my DSLR gets here and it's easier for me to light for it if I can see it live. I saw a video some where on youtube where the guy was talking about downloading custom picture styles. Is there some place to do this online that I am unaware of?

Other than the second link I posted above, I wouldn't know specifically, but I've run into other sites where users have their picture styles available for download. It's very easy to do yourself by using the Picture Style Editor that comes with the proprietary software. You'll see once your camera arrives.
