Picture Quality of Different SDHC cards

I know there is differences in transfer/capture rates of different manufactures cards, but is there really a difference in the PICTURE quality of say a SANDISK vs a lower end class 6/10 card?

Difference is in hardware quality. Just read some of the threads about failed SD cards to see why you should get the highest quality cards you can find.

1's and 0's are 1's and 0's... it doesn't matter what card you use, it all will look the same as it's file based. As others have pointed out, what matters is the reliability of the card and whether it will crap out or not.

I been using Sandisk Extreme and they work great, no problems there!... on the other hand people been reporting problems with Panasonic cards!. there are many other options out there, but so far sandisk works great for me!

Quality of video is exactly the same as long as all data is correct. DV and HDV are tape-based standards and include quite a bit of error detection and correction data, I've seen numbers up to 25% of data stream is dedicated for error detection and correction. I don't know how much error detection/correction features AVCHD has, but probably less than say DVCPROHD/P2. AVCHD is a file-based format, so the simplest error detection thing would be just a checksum in a header. If there is no any error correction features, then a bad card can ruin a whole clip if those zeroes and ones are not there.

So Im thinking about sticking to Sandisk and Panasonic, is that what most of the people seem to use?

What brands are you using?

I've heard of problems with panasonic cards, but not sandisk ones. I use patriot cards at the moment and after a year I've had no problems. I've not heard of anybody else having problems with this brand either. Quite a few people have had problems with Transcend cards though.

Paying more doesn't necessarily seem to guarantee quality I'm afraid.

Sandisk seems to be the least tainted, but nothing is 100% guaranteed.

I have had no problems with Delkin eFilm, Panny and Patriot...

1 issue with a transcend and my T1i... most likly i did not format the card b4 hand - which is a MUsT!

Whatever brand you pick - there will always be some one who has had problems with it.

I'm currently using a pile of Verbatim 16GB cards (9 of them) and have not had any problems. In the past I have had problems with Sandisk cards but it's the luck of the draw I think. Transcend have always worked for me - but other people have problems.

So, pick a card you can afford, preferably with local warranty and DON'T UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES buy from e-bay. Never, ever, ever.
