Here is a new editing system list I came up with, of course with all of your great suggestions.

Apple - Mac Pro Two 2.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon (4-Core)

Specifications
* Two 2.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
* 4GB (4x512MB, 2x1GB)
* 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
* ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics with 512 MB of memory
* One 16x SuperDrive
* Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse - U.S. English
* Mac OS X - U.S. English

Apple Final Cut Studio 2

Mac System Configuration and Testing

ViewSonic VG2030wm - Flat panel display - TFT - 20.1” - widescreen ??

10FT 28PIN DVI-I M/M DVI-I Single Link Display DVI Cable

Hitachi Deskstar 500GB SATA-II 7200rpm 16MB cache Drive

Now is this list good enough to handle, edit and output HVX HD or SD footage?

I will submit this list to ProMax to see if they can build this one for me.

Thanks

streets - id suggest getting the dell 24" as opposed to the viewsonic. especially THOSE viewsonics as i dont think they are up to spec to display HD res.

and id HIGHLY suggest some form of external drive (be it a pci/esata or fw800) as that secondary internal 500gig drive will fill up pretty soon.

also, ditch that mighty mouse (even though it comes with the mac) - its another of apples carpal-tunnel inducing, poorly designed devices. get a good logitech optical mouse

other than that, your order looks pretty good.

Thanks Wgzn!

Your input has been very helpful throughout this process.

I will ditch the Viewsonic and go for the Dell 24'.

I did not mention but their quote came with 2 500GB Hitachi external drives so that should be enough.

No mighy mouse? man that breaks my heart! :thumbsup:

Thanks

anyone else want to chime in on my new list, go right ahead!

Duno about the GPU. I'm using a GeForce 7900GS and it's working perfecto. So, yeah maybe you wanna go X1900? I dunno.

2.0ghz may not beenough you think?

The video card is a last minute change but I may still go with the Radeon....

I moderate elsewhere.

One of the most common issues I respond to is firewire failures; buses, enclosures, ports, drives, hotswapping, dismounting, etc.

To me SATA is a better approach, and I'm not inconvenienced opening the case and sliding in a new drive from time to time.

If your workflow works for you, that's great; but I don't recommend it based on what I've seen.
