Photos from the "old days"

I love it. It's great. A perfect snack with the dark rye bread. But I dislike going to the Russian deli for it.

Once again, it came up as a topic on the "Disliked it in the USSR" page. Someone even posted a "revised" list of ingredients from the official Department of Crappy Food Ministry. 1979 took a huge dip down.

Rom Com "Irony of fate or have a nice bath" premiered on the Soviet TV January 1st, 1976 (with the second half airing the following night) and immediately became a mega hit, arguably the most popular film in the history of the USSR. It's been subsequently shown on the same day for the next forty five years. Andrey Myagkov, who passed away recently at 82, said he hated it. Those who grew up with it know every line of dialog. To me, film isn't perfect but has its charms.

Below is the shot of the two stars (along with the Polish actress Barbara Brylska). YouTube has it on the Mosfilm Channel. I've watched it for the "first" second time on the New Years in 2007/2008. Netflix is going to remake it, partially due to opening its business in Russia.

December 31, 1999 (five more minutes to go to keep with the anniversary theme) was Boris Yeltsin's last day as the president of Russia.

A common steering wheel and driver seat covers. The OEM wheel was too slick and the fake leather usually split open.

DLD...you're a vegan for 2022...new Russian trend...

The only vegan thing from the Soviet Union was vodka. Back in the 1970's, a 1/2 liter bottle of Moskoskaya was 3.62 Rub, while the same size bottle of Stolichnaya was 4.12. The cost of production was around 4 kopeks (.04 rub) per liter, not counting the glass. An average wage was ~ 100 Rub/mo.

Nah, it's not...lol.

It looks gross and it's actually gross. (The slippery texture more than the taste.)

Put the meat inside a pierogi, not jelly.

My grandpa would eat more of the round head cheese.

A round gelatin cold cut on a piece of bread.

The late great Georgiy Vitsin, 1917-2001, star of many a Soviet film. Mostly comedic.
