Photo Shot Button on Remote

Ok, let me start out by stating "I have already read the manual".

Anyone know why the remote for the HMC150 has a "Photo Shot" button that according to page 18 of the manual is not function that can be executed on our camera. Granted I know the camera can't take stills, but it leads me to believe that it may in a future firmware update. Why have the button on the remote unless it can be used with other Panasonics that can take stills.

Thoughts?

Is the same remote used for the HMC40? If so, then that would explain it, as the HMC40 does take 10.6 mpx stills.

Kinda wish for $3,295 the HMC150 took stills also.

Eh . . . if you want stills, use a still camera. Still shooting on video cams is a consumer all-in-one gimmick. HMC40 is just taking advantage of the fact that it uses a nice high-res CMOS sensor.

The remote is used across many of their products, some have photo shot capability, others (like the HMC150) don't, but the remote remains compatible.

Don't expect any real new features on the camera. Panasonic shipped the camera with the features it has - we all bought it with the features it has and no one should expect anything else for free.

Any 'real' new features get rolled in to a new model. It gives them much more bang for the buck because instead of giving things away for free they get lots of press and media coverage for their new model which in turn leads to sales - which means money they would not have got if they just kept adding new features to old models for no return.

In terms of taking 'stills', depending on the model, you can have 24, 25, 30, 50 or 60 of them every second. You just need to export your favorite frame from the time line :)

What about the HPX170?

What about the HPX170?

So if the Photo Shot button on the remote doesn't do anything on my HPX170, why do the red LED Record Indicator lights flash for a second? Nothing shows up in the thumbnails or on the SD card (although I've read in other forums that the still shot is saved as a JPG on the SD card).

Thanks
