photo motion type thing in final cut

I have a bunch of pictures for a photo motion type thing I'm trying to pull off. What's the best way to do this in final cut? Is there a way to set how many frames long it will be when I import them into the timeline?

Since this would involve just using standard editing techniques, I'm assuming you mean when you import into the project, not the timeline. You can set a new default duration for any stills imported into the project in the User preferences in the Editing tab. Note that this will not change the duration for any stills already in your project.
