Phone jack died

Hi, the phone jack on my camera has stopped working. There are two possible explanations:

- My camera was on my desk, with headphones plugged in, and my cat stepped on the plug.

- I connected the camera phone jack on my video monitor using an odd combination of various 1/8" cables, rca cables and adapters; and all this made something blow in the camera (is that possible?)

Now all I hear is nothing or sometimes a little scratch. Nothing happens when I shake the plug.

Can anybody help? I have had my camera for a year and a half so it's not on guarantee anymore, at least where I bought it.

Is there a cheap way to repair this?

Thanks, Guillaume

Second scenario is most certainly real. DVX is notoriously sensible when it comes to firewire and phones connections. You will need to get it fixed - prepare to cut off an arm and a leg, usually you need to replace the VTR board and it's not cheap.

Thanks guys,

Helps a lot, I think I'll go with the headphone amp, good idea BrianMurphy. Webdog: Yes, I checked the volume and it's not the problem ;)

Thanks again

Panasonic Repair centres have a bulletin to countermeasure and repair the Headphone jack problem.
Contact your nearest service centre.
No you do not have to replace the VTR board. The fault can be repaired at board level.
