Philip Bloom's GH2 died a watery death

Yeah but it is hard to find that camera right now. He seems to be sweet on m4/3rds right now with the AF-100 and all the lens support...I am sure he'll get another. I hope he finds someone to go down there and get the footage back!

Bloom lives in britain and GH2s are everywhere here...GH2 is really not as hard to find as you think (heck I can walk round the corner and buy one)...plus lets be honest here...He probably earns a good sum...he can buy another one with no trouble...im sure it wont hurt his bank balance at all.
The comments on his site act like a family member had died fer chris' sakes!

I'm pretty sure Philip has said he didn't care about the camera so much as all the timelapse he shot. Timelapse is labour intensive stuff for all the baby-sitting to say the least.

Time to invest in a heavier tripod.

And damn, that must have been some gust of wind! HE said the evil wind took a Beta SP cam of his too...

I'm definitely sticking to my Manfrotto 475B now. It's heavy-ish, reliable and spreads all the way to hi-hat levels.

The extra weight is a little price to pay for it not flying into abysses and lakes. :D

**** happens. Shame really as i shot some beautiful footage I think! Panny japan were stars are got me a replacement and 3d Lens in 3d days so will still be showing it at workshops. Very hard to get them here in Australia. I found one in Sydney

I'll get it for you when i'm back down there next week. Who knows, the card electronics could be water tight, terminals will be corroded. I'll wear my GoPro headCam with light and video the recovery. You have to feature it on the blog, deal Philip?

not a bad trick to pull for a 2nd free GH2 hahaaa, a gent of bloom's reputation surely gets stuff for free

i'm only kidding... i'm sure your GH2 is swimming with the fishes

Bloom should call the local dive shop, or maybe even his workshop members. If he's lucky he'll find an enthusiast photographer-diver that will recover it for the dive equipment rental costs or just the adventure. I'd do it if I was there. In any case, he should notify the local divers and post a reward for the recovery (if he wants his footage).

Here's my suggestions for recovering it: Get permission to enter the water from where it went over. Make up another tripod with similarly weighted camera (any contraption with similar legs and weight characteristics). Toss it over with fishing line attached and let it fall freely. Note where it goes later when you enter the water. I'm assuming the worst here: 120 feet of water, murky, current, etc. Additionally, make some calculations based on depth and current. Next, rapel down into the water carrying a 20 lb. weight with 200+ feet of rope attached. When you hit bottom directly below, set the weight then using the 200 foot rope at yard intervals extended downstream, move from left-to-right-and-back about 30º, adding a yard at each sweep. Lights too. If diver's regularly frequent the area it's probably not so problematic, except for the sharks, but even they can be mitigated with a little caution :º)

Just hire a diver to go get it for you- after you allow the SD card to dry it should work fine and youll get the footage back.

All I remember from that post is: 3D timelapse

That's gotta be nice.

That and the priceless look on his face...
