F55: Philip Bloom Shot on the F55

More of a bit on Film Convert software with terrible compression artifacts added in by Vimeo. Still I do like the skin tones and roll off. That's the kind of look a Cooke Varitol zoom will give you without the software. I'm wishing I hadn't sold my Cooke lens. :-(

Saw the f55 and f65 when sony had a little workshop here. Id say f55 is an awesome camera. Sony is putting up good cameras.

link is dead.

Works for me.

This gives me some hope for the F55. I haven't seen anything come out that really shows it can produce pretty images other than the Dig, which looked incredible. This also looks very nice.

Starcentral, do you have anything you can show us as an example?

I wish I could post some of the stuff I've been working on.

With the right LUTs and or post processing, the F55 is a dead ringer for an Alexa.

horrrrrible compression artifacts, and from the looks of it, its partly from camera noise... I dont know, I'm not impressed with that upload at all. I upload to vimeo all the time and never see bad artiacts like that, his export prcess was either reallllly crappy or the cameras low light is not very clean.

It's Vimeo or should I say it's compression. I've had noise from a video created in After Effects using just comps created in AE at 32bit. Makes you wonder how are they every going to deliver clean 4K over Broadband, satelite or cable.

They don't deliver clean 1080p by broadband, satelite or cable now, what makes you think they'll do it with 4k?

Part of the problem is that there are large areas of black. That's just the sort of thing that doesn't compress well. Busy areas are much better and that's obviously Vimeo's compression. With the F55 footage that I've seen if there was any complaint it was that it's too clean. Grain was added before the compression causing the codec to create blocks.

Link was dead earlier today, maybe the video was replaced and being reprocessed.

It looks pretty good, I like the use and control of the highlights and skin tones are pretty nice. I'd love to see it without any film convert on it.

Nothing yet, but I'm working on it. Also before I post anything I really want to sit down and consult with a colourist to fully wrangle out those highlights and make sure they get softened up. I'm working on my own LUT which really shapes out the highlights but I'd rather resort to a "pro". I can't believe I use to be impressed with the Sony provided LUTs.

Nice...
think some great stuff will come online from this camera....

check my homepage www.stefankroesbacher.com and under commercials the "Hansaton" was shot on f55..

and Sony decided to show my latest commercial shot on F55 at their boot at IBC. Lookout for black and white dancers... ;-)
will post online as soon as i'm allowed to...

So many productions i asume are still working/have to hold back, but in 5 months we will have lots of f55 stuf out there...

cheers

I dont buy that excuse at all, I have TONS of dark footage that I've uploaded to vimeo all the same if not darker than that video. All super clean, nothing even close to looking like that.... Sorry but my life is visuals, I would never stand for that kind of noise/artifact. I have a vimeo pro account and never have I ever uploaded something to vimeo and it add anything even remotely close to what I see in that link. I swear sometimes you guys just dont wanna see whats right in front of you because you like the camera.

It's not a matter of liking the camera. And I didn't mean to imply that the black caused the artifacts, only that the artifacts are visible in the solid black areas.

The point of this footage was to advertise new software that adds grain and other manipulations. After that it was compressed on Vimeo. It was not just F55 test footage. I'm sure you didn't use this new software to add grain to anything you uploaded.

Look at some F55 footage, and then comment. F55 footage is very low noise
