Phantom Power source

Is there a way to use a phantom power mic on a computer-??-

Otherwise, how do I power a phantom powered mic without the camera? I want to use the mic for just audio in some cases.

Do those power capsules (like the k6 on the me66) work for all xlr phantom powered mics??

thanks

Re: Phantom Power source

You can get phantom power supplies that will power a phantom-only mic. But phantom mic's are XLR, and computers are almost always 1/8" mini-jack, so you'll need some sort of conversion anyway. Which means you're probably going to want a professional mixer or something like a Beachtek box.

The K6 module is an integral part of the ME mic system and won't do what you want. I recommend buying a USB audio interface. The Tascam US-122 (~$200) plugs into and draws all it's power from a USB port. It has dual phantom powered XLR inputs as well as MIDI inputs.

The great thing about a USB audio interface is that it completely bypasses the (most likely) crappy audio card (or MB chips) that you have in your computer. It's also very versatile, so you can use condenser mics, midi keyboards, or guitars and record directly into an audio program.
