Phantom, or not

Forgot to ask this on my bass roll-off post. (and thanks for the replies there)

If the DVX will power a Senn. 66 with 48v, then why use the battery in the mic?

I'm a big fan of keeping the camera as light as possible so...

Any opinions on this one too?

Thanks!

Using phantom power as opposed to an internal battery usually results in a higher upper SPL limit before overload occurs. Not especially significant, but in the right situation, it can be useful.

SOme mics require that the battery be in place to provide continuity for the Phantom Power. Take the battery out and see if the Phantom works. If it doesn't, put it back in.

Batt or 48V.
If you have time, do a comparison btw 66 on batt and running on 48V.
See the difference in mic performance by recording something and playback to see if there is any diff.
to achieve the optimum performance of 66 , 48V is definitely the choice.
Thus, an AA can last for long hours on 66 if you are worry tt the mic will draw some power from the camera batt.
But definitely, i can compromise tt little bit of batt. life for camera to achieve overall  performance. Since it is a good mic. There is also something like a separate phantom box running on battery to power the K6 module.

remove the battery you don't need it ,

yeah, take the battery out - phantom makes that mic perform much better. ok, well, a little better. the battey doesnt have to be in - forget a phantom power box: they suck, and weigh a ton sometimes.

oh phantom box is a suggestion if he wants to use the AA rather than the 48v built in camera. oh you can hear a diff btw AA n 48V. Therefore, i will still go for box but one like PSC makes one tt is light with a belt clip.

if the camera has phantom power it is very stupid thing to use external phantom box which can die in the middle of the shot for saving few milliampers of camera battery
at least if you are suggesting something like that suggest one with low cut filter and attenuation
http://www.professionalsound.com/Catalog/unips.htm like that ( 270$) which have some benefit when you work directly

just to clarify - microphones drain something between 2-4 ma with 48 v
this is about 0.1-0.2 w per hour from your camcorder battery or your mixer.
it equal to 1 % of what your camcorder takes
this is much critical with mixers working on internal batteries
4ma schoeps cmc6 could short your 302 life for half

in fact though camera has phantom, there are ppl that uses batt too. tt is not stupid.
there are ppl tt want a separate power source rather that using from one source.
I can draw dc power from an Alphamix to power up my lectros. Why do i still use a BDS?
The all using same power source and both can power up same gear.
I have too many spare batteries?? No i don't often buy batteries.
Indeed, phantom box suck batt but those with roll off, attn. when in use will suck deeper! maybe by another half or.... i mean if you want to use AA, i rather use phantom box

since you are in the sells buisness - what exactly you wont to sell i dont get it :-)?
why the f.. i want use aa if i have ph from the camera

think of it, users have too many types. Say if your camera phantom goes ""Bongos""" in the middle of shoot.
Other than a mixer, what else can u suggest with the mic?
By the way i don't do sales during my free time.

i never had one camera that lost phantom power on me for the last 20 years
from beta 200- hl 95/ bvv5 era to 900cina alta these days
i had few phantom boxes which died on me or my booman in the middle :-)
when i say what do you wont to sell -that means what is your point

k6/me66 if you get the skp100g2 plug on to make it wireless, you still require a batt. to power the k6. it does not have a phantom supply.
