Pet Peeve DuJour: The Over-Morphed Face for "horror effect".

I'm in favor of CheeseFest. My entry will be a post-modern existentialist art film titled

Person on Ground Facing Camera Gets Suddenly Snatched Backwards Into Darkness at High Speed by Large Mouthed Humanoid Monster While Clawing at Earth and Expelling a Voluminous Cloud of CGI Particle Condensation: A Love Story

I... just have explosions for no reason... tear jerking moments for no reason... a basket of puppies for no reason... breast shots for no reason (meaning a crappy script who's purpose serves little more then to get those puppies out).

I already have a poster for my entry :D

Hey, Postmaster, looks great! Seems to have almost everything (I'm assuming that little detail in the lower right hand corner is a hint that the feature will also include the boobs)

Supposedly Chris edits and does all of the compositing by himself on a MacBook Pro. The tracking of his face on all of the kids and the monster in this thing is pretty cool.

Actually, no tracking/comping was necessary: the ‘kids’ (mostly little people, but a couple of actual children) were all wearing latex masks that had been made from a cast of Richard James’ face.

The same approach was used on Windowlicker (although the mask on the particularly grotesque ‘girl’ was presumably sculpted from scratch).

Well I think the main problem with "demonface" is that it's a created visual effect, and visual effects are never scary. Sure you may jump, but jumps won't give anyone nightmares.

Fear is created through storytelling and in the mind, by what you DON'T see. You can't ever just hint at something if it's right there in front of your face.

Cool effect, just not good for horror imo.
That's why I'm going old school. No CG and no Demonface.

Hey JavaExMachina, just like paranormal activity old school? oh wait there was a demon warp in one of those endings.
