Perhaps new Cine lenses coming from Cosina?

The lens-market is really starting to take up through digital large sensor cameras.... one look at Germany alone is interesting where after Zeiss Leica has stepped in into the upper echelons of cine-lens manufacturing and Schneider Kreuznach has set up a new line of more affordable primes with their Cine Xenars (and they seem to be coming with two highly interesting Zoom lenses too rather sooner than later)... and now Cosina.

Great times.... if you have the budget, of course....

How long does it take to develop a new lens design and get it to market? The success of the 25 should surely fuel more.

In the case of Leica it was about five years but they did start from scratch and wanted to build the Rolls-Royce of primes.

Cosina may already build cine lenses for other manufacturers... not sure about that... and they own old licences I believe they bought when they acquired Voigtlaender and may have the principal designs for such lenses in store, so they can be faster maybe....

Okay, this link to the history of development in the case of Leica works now...

It's a sad day when a great mind gets corrupted(by money)
Ian has been my hero since I first saw the 10mm Primo back in '89.
Now he's degraded himself to a used car salesman talk. Sad day indeed...
Henrik Fisker is another one...- but thats whole another story...
How did it get to that....

That sounds sad indeed but it also seems to relate to an insider-story people "not in the know" can't say much about. As I am very probably budget wise not in the league to ever rent this thingies I just found it interesting that people would set out for such a project. And, again: I do not know the specifics.

For me it is just fascinating that all of a sudden "old names" in the business seem to pop up again. And I am dearly in love with my Voigtlaenders also for irrational motives like their old fashion built. And wait and hope they would come up with something. Maybe because I am an aficionado for things that appear a bit old and sturdy - like classical motor bike brands. Or, I hope, myself... ;-)

Do you have any experience with the new Schneider Cine Xenar optics? They would be budget wise (rental) an alternative to Zeiss. My cine rental guys here have not yet tested them and as I live not far from the factory in Kreuznach I may hop over and have a look at (and most probably through) them. Just asking because I only stumbled over their existence some weeks ago.
